Thanks Bike Forums! And question...

If it weren't for this place I wouldn't have installed my CR1 fork on my Scott today. Doing it yourself is just so much better.

As I was installing it, my grandmother walked by and said "That doesn't match." I guess that OCP streak runs in the family. :D

Small problem though, if I grab the fork and try to move it back and forth (wheel off ground), there is a slight wobble. Could this have something to do with the compression ring not being installed properly? I have a Cane Creek threadless headset.... donno if that helps much. :) Any help/ideas approciated.

Carbon steerer? If so, it seems that you have to crank down a bit harder on the top cap to preload the headset bearings than with alloy steerers. I had that issue, and another poster in the last few days also had it. Maybe the stem sticks to the carbon steerer? In any case, no movement is good movement. Should back off the cap just slightly after having it too tight. Loosen your stem bolts and crank down some more. Hope this helps.

Yes, carbon steerer. I will try what you said. Maybe I will cross-post in the mechanics forum.
