Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What crankset and cassette do you have?

I'm wondering what gears everyone around here uses. Standard doubles, triples, compact? What's your cassette's range 11-23, 12-25, 12-27, etc?

I have a double. It started out as a 53X39 but I swapped out the 53 for an FSA 50. So in effect I have half standard/half compact crankset. My casette is 12X25

Though, I need a new crankset because my R700 is incompatible with the Q-Rings I just bought!

53x39 Carbon record cranks, 11/23. On days I need to climb, I ride the bike with 53x39 D/A cranks and a 12/27 cassette. Been thinking about going to a compact, but just can't bring myself to it...

Compact double 50-34.
Shimano 9-speed cassette, 12-27.

I rarely use the lowest two cogs (24 and 27), but I'm really glad to have them when I need them.

I'm curious why you train with lower gears than you race.

56/44 up front and a 11-21 cassette. Even in Seattle I don't ever use the 19 or 21 cog, so it's kind of a waste for me to have 10-speed.
