need cheap 700c wheels for my beater
A few months ago I found a huge dent in my rear rim on my ancient beater bike. I didn't want to spend a lot of money to get new wheels so for 60 bucks my lbs gave me 27" mountain bike wheels. The wheels give a really harsh ride with thin road tires and just plain suck. I need to get some real road wheels that will not cost more than $200-but they have to accomodate a 6 speed cassette as well (the bike is from 82.) Any suggestions?

Check in with the mechanics at your LBS.

Dang - $60?
If you've got a Craigslist nearby, you can score a lightweight 80s 700c or 27" set for half that.
If your bike has friction shifting (no clicks in the shifters, you judge the throw), you can use any cassette. So in theory you could even get a modern wheelset w/ a modern cassette, and effectively upgrade your bike from 6 speeds to 7, 8, 9, or even 10 speeds.
