handlebar tape removal...
I'm trying to replace the handlebar tape but how do you guys remove the gunky residue and adhesive from the tape?
I've tried using a scraper, blow dryer, and its taking forever! Is there some kind of solvent or something to dissolve that stuff?

I'm confused. Why do you need to remove the adhesive from the tape? Can't you just rip off the tape? Are you trying to get the adhesive off of the handlebars? Try Goo Gone.

Spray a little WD-40 on a rag and use it to clean the bars. It will remove the tape residue.

Left over tape adhesive will add significant weight and drag, not to mention throw off handling of the entire bike. I would replace the handlebars completely, maybe even the entire bike.

Take a hair dryer and warm up the sticker then it will peel off easily...
tell me how it works.

If your bars are aluminum, try mineral spirits or acetone (nail polish remover if there's a gal around). A bit fumy, but acetone will melt the adhesive right off. Just don't use it on painted surfaces - may soften the paint.

I used lighter fluid before to remove tape residue off of my mountain bike and that worked great. Just don't get the pressurized version.

Guys like me who require 46cm bars and are affectionately called 'bruiser' by their club mates.
