Okay, let's see if money talks. Mods, I've been putting off sending in my membership money, but I will pony up the cash TODAY if you bring back Botto. Whadya say?

bigskymacadam 03-24-07 08:46 AM

i miss botto already. and it's only been twenty four hours for me.

KrisPistofferson 03-24-07 08:48 AM

Botto was great, I always considered him the roadie version of myself. ;) In the absense of 53-11 alltheway and EURO, he was one of the few reasons to read this forum. One thing about banning, though, unless you've done something really heinous, they usually don't ban you permanently, especially the first time. Give it a couple days.

By the way, Patriot tends to get really silly when folks disagree with him, so he deserves everything he gets, and it is very entertaining for the rest of us. :)

As he would have said himself....

But its a discussion forum, not necessarily a place to belittle others. I have been guilty of it myself, but people tend to say things on forums they wouldn't otherwise say in a live (so to speak) conversation.
Forums I thought are here to help people, the only way belittling(?sp) helps people is to show everyone what a small person the belittler(not a word I know) really is.
If that is something you like then you should try it at your local licensed establishment.

Well, in the meantime, until he's back....I nominate Dr. Pete as our resident wise-cracking dude. He posts a lot, and if you push his buttons just a bit he's quick to snap at ya like a hungry croc.

I tell ya, ever since he got himself married he's a different man.

I attribute it to being out of my element this year and, as a result, having tons more free time than I know what to do with. At times, that's a dangerous combination. :D

This whole 40-hour work week thing is driving me insane. How sad is that?

Forums I thought are here to help people...

No, this is the ROAD forum! If you want help, go to the Bike Mechanics forum! :p

Really though, it's humor. It's just humor. Not dangerous, not harmful. Like Dr. Pete said, we can all learn to not take ourselves too seriously.

^^Myself included, I should add...

If only I could find the pic of me posing with R600DuraAce in Mormon underwear... ;)

:(

I know I'm probably going to get scorched for this, but I'll toss it out anyway.

I think most of us remember sydney. He really knew his stuff, but he tended to have an abrasive way of delivering the info. Most of us put up with that abrasiveness because the info was often really that useful.

Ever since we lost sydney (RIP) I've felt like there's been a sort of contest among certain people to become the "new sydney". Unfortunately, many of them got the "jerk" part right, and that's about it. There's a difference between being funny and being abrasive, but it seems like some people don't understand that difference.

I just don't understand why it's necessary at all to maintain that kind of persona on a forum. It's VERY easy to be a jerk across the Internet, probably easier than being civil. I often wonder how many new members had a question they really wanted to ask, but didn't ask it for fear of getting a typical botto/Euro reply. I wonder how many people have joined, had an encounter, then left.

I wouldn't mind a friendlier BF, but that's just me.

Grasschopper 03-24-07 09:06 AM

Oh this sucks...bring Botto back. :(

erm, I'm going to ask the obvious:

bdg, you always seem to know people's birthdays, banned status.... are you a profile-stalker?

CreepShow 03-24-07 09:13 AM

On digg.com earlier this week I saw mention of shutdownday. In short, it's about going a whole 24 hours without your computer. Maybe Botto is taking part and has decided to be offline all day today?

Here's a link to the shutdownday site (it doesn't seem to have much on it today...)

Birthdays are listed at the bottom of the main forum listing.

It should be noted that Botto became a BF member months after we lost sydney. I really don't think that that has anything to do with his persona, I think that's just Botto. And as far as being helpful, just last week, he was the only one who responded thoughtfully to a post of mine.

...huh....I never knew that. Sure enough. Three birthdays today.

OK, enough of that. I'm going to go try to ban myself now. I hear it's what all the kids are doing these days.

Not even close. No matter anyone's opinion of Botto, it should be fairly clear that he's somewhere north of 14yo.

Hammertoe 03-24-07 09:40 AM

This is like a car wreck...

No fatalities....

Nothing to see....

Move along....

I am sure he will be back....

the beef 03-24-07 09:46 AM

I didn't like botto. His sarcasm bugged me.

But I don't take him so seriously any more, and I found out he has some pretty rad P-shop skills.

ViperZ 03-24-07 09:48 AM

Botto was funny

I say we spring him!

DrPete 03-24-07 09:52 AM

Just got an e-mail from Mr. B--he sends his greetings, appreciates the support, and tells me that it's apparently a 1-week thing. Other comments, naturally, have been omitted. :D

EventServices 03-24-07 09:52 AM

It takes a village.

And I really don't want to live in a milque toast village where the spiciest food is graham crackers and the only offensive sound I hear is the clouds moving across the sky.

One week in the box for high sticking?

Psimet2001 03-24-07 09:55 AM

I'll be back in a week.

Not sure where that came from but for the sake of answering I will..
there is a little thing at the end of the first page when you open bf that shows who's birthday it is, if I encounter it, I make a point of saying Happy bithday to try and make that person's day more special:)
and, when Pete said he was banned, I simply went to look at my pm box to find his name and see if it said banned next to it.
Sorry to dissapoint you, not much research or stalking was involve in this, same info as anyone else can get to.

I don't know any other member name to check who has been banned but Ryanf's has a period next to his "banned" as well.

This is pizza and beer stuff for sure.

Yo'all are a hoot...:D
