Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

eBay seller say his Bianchi's are 2001's? More like 1985's!

I ran across a guys eBay listing (actulally 2) and seeing how he is listing his bike as a 2001 year model, I sent him a message telling him the bikes are not 2001's. He said he bought both new, direct from a dealer who said they were indeed new 2001 bikes.
My guess is about 1985-89? Opinions? Also noted a similar Biancha Strada listing (both sellers new) using the same descriptive language, which leads me to believe a scam.

Well, clearly nobody was selling new 12-speed bikes in 2001 so....he's probably just uninformed.

Here's his other listing......https://cgi.ebay.com/Edoardo-Bianchi-...QQcmdZViewItem

note the same 2001 year listed. He was p.o.'d that I sent him a message saying they were probably 80's bikes. There is also another eBay listing for a Strada without tires...description is same, but different seller name. Nigerian scam or just a dufas?

Neither of the listings say 2001 anymore, good work, still seems a little scammy if he had originally put 2001

I thought I'd share the email exchange I had with the kid. Just for kicks:

Best of luck with your scam. You're lucky I don't report you.

*cough*
I had to find a way to accurately weigh the bike. The bike weighs 14 lbs. 12 ozs. according to a digital bathroom scale. I weighed myself, held the bike and weighed again.

Let's see what his response to my correcting message is...

I had that exact bike a few years ago. It was pretty when it was clean. It rode very well, and was super comfortable. I got rid of it because the standover was too high (a common problem since I have stumpy legs and monkey arms), and getting on and off was complicated.

It also weighed well over 20 pounds, and I think I pegged the year at 1992, though I don't have the SN anymore.

It's hilarious that he was placing the responsiblity of an honest, accurate listing on you. Considering his feedback of 1 and the fact that he hasn't sold a bike, I'm not surprised. It's still sad, though, how uneducated people are about what they're trying to get people to pay money for.
