Lebron James Buys A Stake In Cannondale

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lebron James Buys A Stake In Cannondale

Just thought this was interesting to hear about:

------------------
March 26, 2007, Bethel, CT – The Cannondale Bicycle Corporation today announced that internationally recognized NBA superstar LeBron James, through his wholly owned company King James Inc., has acquired an undisclosed ownership stake in Cannondale.

Does Cannondale even make a bike that would fit him?

From the article:

"For the 2006 bike-a-thon, the company designed and manufactured a custom bike for LeBron based on the Caffeine™ model design, which he has subsequently incorporated into his training regimen."

I would think that he has money managers controlling his huge sums of money and didn't have any info on the purchase. He probably doesn't have the time to get to involved in money mangement. Its not like he even has basic knowledge gained from a finance or accounting degree.

Though it would be great if he removed that ugly sticker on the chainstays that says "HANDMADE IN AMERICA".

He's either a business man (which he is) or a phantom cyclist (which i doubt he is)

They built an MTB for Shaq some time ago. Goofiest looking bike ever. Looked like it had skateboard wheels because the frame was so big.

He's both. LeBron is well known in the Akron area for his love of cycling and his annual charity bike ride. His off season fitness regimen has incorporated cycling for the last several years. Dwayne Wade, among others, has been a celebrity participant. There was a national commercial featuring Wade gifting his SUV to a playground coach and riding off into the sunset on his bike.

Schwinn was an original sponsor of LeBron's event, and Cannondale got involved last year, I believe. With the relationship between Nike and Trek, I'm just surprised that LeBron didn't hookup somehow with Trek.

LeBron is a bright, amazingly well-grounded guy, who continues to give back to the Akron community.

Didn't he fire his agent and hire his friends instead?

He's actually set a goal to become a billionare. He's good buddies and takes advice from Warren Buffet, which I would say, more than makes up for the lack of degree. BTW, an accounting degree doesn't make you a good investor, it may make you a good saver. Two, very different things.

Capital allocation is not taught at leading business schools. They also can't teach temprament. Just read the book "When Genius Failed: The Rise and Fall of Long-Term Capital Management"...by Roger Lowenstein. Those hedge fund gurus boasted degrees from elite schools and Nobel Prize winning economists... yet they still went bust.

Cool. So LeBron rides and has an interest in Cannondale. He's already a millionaire so what's a few more million for him in his investments? I also ride a Cannondale (Synapse road bike) and love the NBA. However, I am a Laker fan. Yeah, yeah, I know. Well wada ya want, I from socal.

Well in Warren Buffett's case, what's a few more billion? Don't take those investments lightly. Warren Buffett never played pro basketball. He started investing when he was delivering papers in washinton, DC. Now he's worth over 50 billion and gaining on Bill Gates.

Trust me, Dream, I don't take these investments lightly and I certainly admire Warren Buffett. However, with LaBron's and Warren's millions (billions) seemingly beyond my reach, I can certainly--ah--dream.

Just saying he doesn't do his own investing.....that would be stupid! He's good at playing basketball. Stick with what your good at.
