Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It would be lighter if they didn't wrap an aluminum frame in carbon fiber... lol

Carbon wrapped alloy? You've got to be kdding me.

I'm all for using a cheap Wally World bike if you can't afford a high end roadie. There's nothing wrong with that. But this takes "FRED" to a whole new level.

If Schwinn doesn't knock it off, they're going to destroy what minimal reputation they've managed to regain with the Fastback, and the FB roadies they came up with.

This is truly pathetic.

It even looks like it was assembled by a Walmart employee.

if it increases physical activity in the obese American and Walmart shopper, then i am all for it. schwinn and pacific cycles should be commended for their effort.

And at 32 lbs, it will give a better workout. My steel touring bike weighs less than this carbon fiber jobbie. As a matter of fact, my trike weighs less than this bike.

What a time we live in when the cost per pound of a CF bike is cheaper than steel.

The real question is why does anyone even spend the time looking for bikes in Walmart.

It's good to see that the Varsity has lost a little weight. The 60's/70's version was beefier as I recall.

Some guy in the Commuter forum bought a Denali, rides it at 26mph AVERAGE speed, and last time I checked, had over 2k miles on it with no problems whatsoever.

The positioning of the bars, stem and brifters - while appropriate for some riders, indicates whoever assembled it, and more importantly, whoever approved it for the photo, has no clue what it takes to SELL a road bike.
