Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Let there be light...an RS build

The goal: Get in on the group buy and get a nice frame for cheap. Begin building the bike sometime after I get married in August since we need a lot of money for the wedding/honeymoon. Don't go crazy on parts though, use the wheelset I already have from Odds and Endos and hope for a sub 16 lb bike.

The outcome: Wedding? What wedding?

The details:
Frame: 50cm RS
Fork: Easton EC90 SLX
Wheels: Alex Crostini 3.1 Rims, Tune hubs, CX-Ray spokes (1272 grams with rim tape)
Group: Brifters, FD and RD SRAM Force.
Crank: FSA K-Force Light 50/34 w/ceramic BB
Cassette: Dura Ace 11/23
Stem: Carbon Concepts 90mm
Bar: Zipp SLC2
Seatpost: USE Alien Carbon
Calipers: 07 Zero Gravity Ti
Saddle: Specialized Toupe 143
Headest: FSA Orbit IS Carbon w/carbon compression plug
Pedals: Speedplay Zero's Ti
Cages: Arundel Trident
Tires: Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX
Skewers: Odds and Endo's sourced Ti
Chain: Dura Ace
Cables: Powercordz w/Nokon housings
Bartape: Zipp w/carbon end plugs
Tubes: Vittoria Ultra-Light

The rudimentary bathroom scale measurement shows it at 14.2 lbs. When the tires need to be replaced I'm thinking about putting on some Ultremo Schwalbe's, which would get me under 14. We'll see though, since I like the look I have now.

The pictures:

Nice bike...how come the computer is so far to the left? That would drive my left hand absolutely nuts while climbing on the tops.

Hehe...uhhh...a little less than a 10 day honeymoon in Portugal.

As far as the computer goes...I moved it over as to not cover the graphics for the pic. It will be in a more user friendly location when riding.

You got me. Undying stole it from the cover of The Story of B, and I did some image editing to get it the right color. I have one on the back of each arm too.

nice build! I got a name decal also but I thought the font was too big so I put it in a less visible place.

I really liked their first EP when it came out. I remember one of our friends from Connecticut was hyping it like crazy after they played a show with them in NC.

Anyhow, is the wedding still on?? If so, how has the fiance taken the significantly downgraded honeymoon?

Their last record is amazing. The first singer had to quit because of throat problems and a petite girl took over. She was even better sounding than the original singer.

The wedding is still on, and we didn't skimp on the honeymoon. It's going to rule. I hope to rent some bikes and go riding in Lisboa.

yeah, he had developed pallups (sp?) and left it untreated for quite a while, which supposedly led to something more severe that forced him to quit. It's pretty common for metal/hardcore vocalists to not learn how to use their vocals without tearing them up in the process (I think the guy from Trial had the same issues). I haven't heard the record with the new girl but her vocals were definitely stronger live than the original singer (I saw one of her first shows with the band at that year's Hellfest).

Anyhow, congrats on the bike and the upcoming wedding! Let me know when you want to take it over to Bainbridge for a test run on some hills. I'm interested in checking out the FSA crank/bb and SRAM so you know I'm game whenever.

That's not just a bike.

That's a machine built for gods!!!!

May you float among the clouds like angels, and climb many a mountain with your new UCI illegal machine.
