training with a cold

is it out to train with a cold? i've been sticking to a strict training schedule and today was one of my rest days and i feel a bit under the weather...is it ok to train tomorrow? will a cold just get worse if i ride?

I don't think the cold will get worse...but you could very likely feel much worse than if you didn't train.

u won't know until you get on the bike

after you warm up if you're feeling drained or fatigued, just do a recovery ride, take it easy.

i actually have a cold right now, and because of that i had no desire to ride today. i went to spin yesterday morning, and i felt horrible, to the point that i wanted to get off the bike halfway through the ride and go home. i would never do something like that though, but if i had to do it over again, i wouldn't have went to the class...

i had the flu a month ago, and i didn't spin then, because i felt horrible and i knew that i would get nothing out of it. having almost no voice, and getting the hiccup's every hour on the hour, didn't help either...

some people say that a bad workout is better than no workout at all, but i personally disagree with that statement. there are times when a rest is better than a bad ride, especially when you know the ride is going to be bad before you even get dressed...

Rule 1: If you have a fever, stay home.
Rule 2: if you are hacking things out of your lungs, FIND A DOCTOR, not a bike.

If you just have a stuffy nose/head cold AND you are the fortunate type that has exercise induced sinus clearing, GO FOR IT. Clear out the sinuses and should clear your head, always does for me. Definitely take it easy though and eat well of course, but I know I ALWAYS feel better after.

If you are the type where exercise makes your nose worse, don't go. You will probably end up with sinusitis or something bad.

I don't think the cold will get any worse, but the performance might suffer. Have some soup, watch TV and say to hell with it.

I still ride, maybe not as hard unless it clear up while riding (about 50/50 for that), then make sure to sleep more than usual until it goes away. Oh, and vitamin C is amazing...Emergen-C, Airborne, etc.

Rode a week ago with a bad cold. 40 or so miles. Figured the ride would either break the cold or put me in the hospital. A week later, neither. Still have the stinkin cold, although seems better, and did not get worse from the ride.
