Interesting: Nike drops Trek; Consumer cycling
I don't own any Nike cycling clothing; but thought this was interesting none the less.

When I asked Applegate if the end of the Trek relationship meant the end of consumer offerings, he said that fact was “still not certain” and that the future of Nike’s consumer cycling line was “under review.”

What was the name of the Nike shoes John Tomac wore in the early 90s? They were specially made so he could put SPD cleats in them.

Interesting. I was thinking that Nike would be a perfect sponsor for the Discovery Team. The $10-12 million it takes is nothing for a company that size. I thought it would be a good fit. On the other hand I have Nike cycling shorts and they are basically junk. Fabric is thin, stitching is sloppy and it is the only shorts where I get irritation after a decent ride. I save it for my 10 mile rides.

With a company like Nike, the question isn't whether or not they can afford the $10m, rather, what their ROI is. I'm guessing it was an overall loss. Little wonder given their effort.

Lance has left the building...
check out this week's Velonews, there's an ad from discovery channel, supposed to be showing Lance Armstrong's shop, the bike in the stand is just barely visible, but its a mountain bike. Do those ******s even watch racing on other channels??

I was on Nike cycling website last week and they were closing out some of there mountain bike shoes. About 33% savings over local Trek bike shop pricing.

Get serious you silly weenies. No Lance, no dice.
Did you really think Nike was involved because they give a **** about friggin cycling? Are you totally high?
Lance transcended cycling so completely with his story/persona/accomplishments that a company like Nike that previously didn't know what a bicycle even was got into making BICYCLE SHOES. Sure. That's just around the bend.
That's what should be the shock. Not that they have dropped this sport, a complete sports marketing loser compared to their core business, like a stone. I'm only surprised it took them 20 months since Lance's retirement to do it.
You and me are the only idiots that are into cycling. If you hadn't noticed, your entire family and all your friends probably think you're some kind of lunatic. Mine do. 'You rode 75 miles today??' (look of utter incredulity).

And most of Nike's cycling stuff is overpriced and mediocre quality. They'd do better in cycling if they sold a better product.

I think there was some Nike stuff that was high end, I have a few pieces that are the best stuff out of all my cycling clothing. I only bought it though because I can get it at 50% off list but I woulkd take their jerseys any day over all the others I own if they only had good colors.

After the role out of the 10/2 wear and it's marketing failure, Nike saw the light that even marketing lance AND his cancer they could not turn a meaningful ROI.
They were riding the Lance phenomenon and when that ran out of steam they jumped off.

I have some Nike shorts that I really like. Maybe I'll come to hate them over time, but I like them so far.

nike produces nice cycling shoes but their clothing line sucks. i believe i read somewhere dmt makes the nike shoes now. not suprising they jumped the lance wagon since of his caner and the unsuccessful 10-2 line
