safety performance of the Catlike Kompact Pro

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

safety performance of the Catlike Kompact Pro

i've beentrying to track down a catlike in N/A to no avail, but have found vendors in the uk and italy.

are there any issues in regards to the functional performance of their helmets in regards to well; saving my head?

i am not sure of what this disclaimer on one vendor's site is getting at:

"Important information for Customers Outside the European Union: The Kompact Pro Helmet is designed for use in the European pro peleton and therefore meets the EN1078 European safety standard. If your country requires a different and/or more stringent standard neither Prendas Ciclismo nor Catlike can take any responsibility for the use of the Whisper in these circumstances."

it refers to the "whisper" model, but this statement was present on the Kompact Pro listing as well.

The US is now recognizing the European safety standards so I'd assume that your head will be safe. I wear a Catlike so I sure hope they save my noggin if the need every arrises.

I know there was an issue a couple of years ago as the strap system Catlike uses didn't meet Snell/DOT 4 (or whatever) standards and they were withdrawn from the US (and Australia IIRC). The issue wasn't that they were unsafe rather that selling them left the distributors open to litigation if someone injured themselves using a non-approved helmet.

I think they're ok now. I own a Whisper.
