OMG! Plastic is lighter than Carbon!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Doc. Doc. I guess I expect more from you. That was a JOKE. A JOKE Doc.
The level of criticism on here has reached an all time fever pitch. Virtually everybody weighing in on this thread is trolling. Hate to say it, but that means you too bro as you haven't contributed to the OP's question either. Of course its ridiculous. That's the point. Being ridiculous is one's only defense against needless insults.

George,
Wasn't it a joke that nudged you over the edge?

Guilty....I think you mean Viper's reference. It was clever and brilliantly funny. I did apologize to him.
But redfooj, a serious question and this applies to the Doc as well. If the OP asks a question and I make every effort to answer the question to the best of my ability to convey my thoughts and grow from feedback from others and you, Doc and a long list of others purely attack a poster (me) that is trying to contribute in a substantive way "without yourself making any effort to contribute or argue the question posed", what does that make you?
To me, that is trolling. I don't know, it just seems so obvious to me. Isn't it to you other guys? Being criticized for trying to have an on topic dialog? Its one thing to have a disagreement, maybe even a heated argument but to attack a poster for trying to contribute? Am I wrong to be outraged? To me the only plausible explanation for this dynamic is insecurity. You can't contribute because you don't understand the subject matter or you would. In compensation then you attack the guy who gave it his best shot in an effort to shed some light.

I will expand just slightly. I read a lot of threads on here and like the rest of you guys, I don't contribute that much...mostly to mechanical threads as that is what I know. But I do if I think I can make a contribution. When I read something I don't know I am grateful to learn. For example...I don't know a lot about interval training, what percent of HR to train at etc. because I am not disciplined enough to obey any training guidelines even though I am an avid rider. But...I read those posts with interest. I would never think to barge in and slander somebody who knew more then I did about any subject. I would have respect for their wisdom. Doc comes to mind of course because of his expertise in medicine. When he talks medicine, I listen and would never think to disparage him for having this expertise.
George

True. The herd mentality of the dominant group in any forum automatically condones a certain type of trolling - they're practicing it, therefore quite oblivious to it. BF is not immune to this. You'll have to go back months, before you may find a post in which some of these guys actually made an effort to help someone. This is especially funny, given the prevalent attitude, but definitely preferable when you realize that many simply have no credentials to offer any relevant help.

Herd or mob mentality is so true with piling on typically being so wrong in any setting.

As to the credentials part...a person's credentials or credibility becomes evident because among the sea of posters out there, there is generally one guy who rings in with good advice and it becomes generally recognized as such....an iterated solution. Somebody throws out a postulate and then a bunch of people comment on it and then one or two make good points which the collective borg then generally accepts.
Thanks for your comments,
George

Even though the intial post was perhpas slightly tongue and cheek, I believe it is or was worthy of discussion.

Good for you George. Many of us know to summary call carbon fiber plastic, is not truly understanding the composition of the composite. Many of us have explained and discussed this time and again to those that really care, and to those that are just trolling.

I seen the right answer a few times within the first few pages, as such felt the thread did not require any more explanation or elaboration from me, especially since I thought the thread was trolling in the first place.

I do hope you haven't somehow made the assumption that I'm Catholic by any chance have you? Perhaps due to another post in another thread?

I did once object to a particularly offensive remark directed towards a female forum member and a couple of folks assumed I was a woman. Did seriously consider changing my avatar and riding that wave for a while.
