first clipless ride yesterday

so ok, I went on my first clipless pedal ride yesterday. It was
much better than the straps. Much more power I felt like I had.
Also I didnt have to worry about my foot slipping out of those
straps. So here is the funny part. I practice in my back yard and
did great, I then am ready for the road, well atleast I think. Im in
my garage clipped in on the right side trying so hard to get the
left foot clipped and forget how slow im rolling, panic and then fall
on my right side!! How stupid I felt!! oh well, just a nice scrape on
my knee, no biggie and no one saw me fall. :D

Looks like you got the first fall and first ride out of the way -- Now you can concentrate on going fast. ;)

Wait, does it count if no one sees you fall?

of course it counts! I took the injury just like everyone
else.

everyone falls at one point. When I first started riding clipless I would unclip my foot at least 15ft from a stop to give me time.

How come I'm thinking of Yoda now? Anyways congratulations. Falling down for the first time is great. Now it won't be in the back of your mind all the time. We all fall. That feeling of "oh crap" as your realizing you forgot to unclip is quite exhilarating. Now get out there and keep practicing.

i am starting to use clipless myself and coming from regular platforms.
got the pedals installed on saturday and have only practiced on the driveway.
first practiced clipping and unclipping while stationary getting a feel on where on the shoe it attaches to.

then on the driveway with a slow roll. so far so good. getting the hang of it with two close calls to the ground :)
can't wait to try on the road for a bit when the weather gets warmer.
it does feel a lot better when pedaling. can't wait!

good luck on your learning experience!

If a tree falls in the woods and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound? SORRY for being corny. lol

EventServices 04-10-07 09:44 AM

If a tree falls while using clipless pedals, could someone put that on YouTube?

Flywolf 04-10-07 09:45 AM

Its funny I also thought of Yoda after reading the first post lol, anyway congrats to you :)

Yes, because sound is simply a set of audible vibrations. When a tree falls it will produce these audible vibrations. Therefore, it makes a sound regardless of the audiance or lack thereof.

+1. Help you, clipless pedals will......yes.....hmmmmmm

msheron 04-10-07 10:24 AM

Once you go clipless; you never go back!

dokie 04-10-07 11:35 AM

you have to get used to keep pedeling with your free leg instead of freaking out trying to get clipped in before you go to slow

If an audible vibration happens in the forest, but there's no one there to feel it, does it still make vibrations?

No, gravity only works when it is observed.

So I can fly when I'm asleep and not watching?

correct

As long as no one sees you. As soon as they do you drop like a hailstone.

ivegotabike 04-10-07 03:23 PM

If a tree falls on a rollerblader in a forrest and there are no REAL people around to see it, is it still hillarious?

(only kidding)

teterider 04-10-07 03:27 PM

This thread makes me feel old. Just into my 30's and riding clipless for 20 years.

Harhar, David you are a prick. Forgive me for my summer of indiscretion.
That should be inline skater.

I just noticed since my fall my rim was bent slightly.
Its not rubbing against the brake pads but when I
spin the wheel I can tell its bent a little. Just wanted
to know if its ok to ride like this and not be at risk of
injury or messing up the bike more?

Probably not, but w/o pics we can't see if the rim is actually bent or just out of true. Probably just out of true and if you have a friendly LBS they could true it back up very quickly and cheaply.
