When Lance became LANCE

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When Lance became LANCE

This is amazing to watch. It's as though Lance is on flat ground and everyone else is on a mountain.

I watch this and the alp de' huez video anytime I feel like I can not meet a challenge facing me. It usually does the trick!

Yup. I prefer Alpe De' Huez by ogonzilla, but this one's probably second best. I wish he would make more.

I knew it in May of '99 after I went to the RfR and rode with, and against, Lance for 3 days. When he rode away from EVERYONE on a climb and then circled, waiting, at the top, I knew it was a different ball game (no pun intended).

I told my team-mates and co-workers that he was going to win the Tour and they called me crazy...

I won a lot of $ on those bets...

I agree that:

1. The Alpe D'Huez is even more incredible but this was when Lance wasn't yet the King and didn't yet have an amazing team. This was the first time he'd ever done that in the TDF, and as the announcer points out, it was unusual to see a yellow shirt (the leader) take such a chance by attacking so hard, so early by himself on a tough mountain.

2. The music did suck

Look, since you have ZERO idea of whether his opponents were also using the same (or even more) drugs, AND since he never failed a drug test, why don't you leave the speculation for another thread.

Jesus, comparing LA to Scott Peterson? WTF man? Grip a little tighter grasp on reality...

Nobody said LA was an angel, but he didn't kill his pregnant wife. Drawing ANY type of correlation is A)blatantly irresponsible and B) just ******** stupid!

i'm not comparing lance to scott... just the fact that both cases have a lack of evidence & scott is guilty while lance can do no wrong. also, it was a joke. next time i'll put some smiley or [/joke] to clarify.

EDIT: yeah, it was in poor taste but it was the only "no real evidence" case i could think of on the fly.

Haven't studied Law much, eh? Go back and look at the evidence against both and you'll quickly find that there is circumstantial evidence (at best) against Lance and pretty damn solid evidence against SP...

Joke or not, it was just dumb...

actually, i did study a good amount of law in college & specifically that case for a project in one class.

real quick from wiki:
Peterson's defense lawyers based his case on the lack of direct evidence, and downplaying the significance of circumstantial evidence.

In later press appearances, members of the jury stated that they felt that Peterson's demeanor--specifically, his lack of emotion, and the phone calls to Amber Frey in the days after Laci's disappearance--indicated that he was guilty. They based their verdict on "hundreds of small 'puzzle pieces' of circumstantial evidence that came out during the trial, from the location of Laci Peterson's body to the myriad of lies her husband told after her disappearance."

More evidence supporting the case for Peterson's guilt was the testimony provided by Ralph Cheng, a hydrologist with the United States Geological Survey, and an expert witness on tides, particularly in the San Francisco Bay. However, Cheng admitted during his cross-examination, that his findings were "probable, not precise"— tidal systems are sufficiently chaotic, and he was unable to develop an exact model of the bodies' disposal and travel.

...not exactly solid evidence

back to the topic at hand: that video is sweet & i have it on a playlist that i turn on & attempt to watch while on the rollers. i highly recommend it if you need something to watch & not get bored to while stationary.

Regardless of how Armstrong's feat was accomplished (training, chemicals, act of God, genetic manipulation, blessing by the Flying Spaghetti Monster) his attacks against the other gifted/enhanced riders (otherwise they wouldn't be there) were awesome- literally awe inspiring.

The only way to lessen Armstrong's dominance in that ride is to argue that he was doping and nobody else in the whole race was.
