53/46 and a 11/32 combo ?!?!
I was just reading about Leif Hoste's setup for Paris Roubaix. 53/46 on the front and 11/32 on the back
. Anyone ever run this combo? is it possible to use every gear? I would think the cross chaining is nasty and you wouldn't even come close.............

Yeah that's a typo. 53/46 and 11-23. There aren't enough hills to necessitate anything more than that. A lot of times, the team mechanics will block out the 11 and 23 because the riders won't be strong enough to really sprint in that big of a gear at the end of the race, nor do they want the chain to get bounced up into the spokes when in the cobbled sections.

funny, i was going to post the same question in the racing forum. glad you guys cleared that up. now, you just have to explain to me the obsession with box rims in the classics. i understand durability, but you would figure that some wheel maker could produce a 50mm rim with 32 spokes front and rear that could stand up to the cobbles.
