Is a 58 CM Road Bike too bike for me?
 

I'm just under 6 feet tall with about a 33 inch inseam.

Depends on the top tube length, your riding style, arm length, flexibility....etc.

I'd say that a 58cm is on the big side, but not necessarily too big.

58 cm sizes are different between each manufacturer. have someone experienced fit you and see

Is that 33" your pants inseam, or your "cycling inseam"?

6'1 long torso dude. 32/33 inseam. 58 Cannondale and a 57 Lemond. Lemond is perfect where the Canni, I had to change to a shorter stem. So like the other dude says, depends on the bike and geometry.

Also some mfgr's measure from center to center, some center to top. Makes a difference.

Yea.. depends on the bike. My Fuji is a 58 and its right at the limit and Im about 6 feet tall.

Only one way to tell, get fitted. Any reputable bike shop will be able to at least fit you enough to know if the bike is going to be too big or small. I have a 58" Trek and I am 5'11" / 32 inseam and it fits me fine. Depends on the bike as well.

I'm a hair under 6' myself, with probably just a little longer in the leg. I ride a 56, 58, 58.5 and 60cm. If I were going custom, a 57 would likely be perfect (at least for my riding style).

What brands are each of your sizes, just curious.

It depends on the bike. There are HUGE variations. I ride a 58 cm Trek 1000, and i'm 6'2".

Yea all about the top tube.
It is a little big for me but you can adjust the stem way down. You can't adjust the top tube.
I have a long torso so I choose to go with a bigger bike. and stretch out since it is a touring bike.

Probably. There's a lot to be said for a smaller frame or compacy geometry with lots of seatpost showing– stiffer, lighter, quicker. I'd look at 54. Get fitted in any case.

Depends on your body. If you have a long torso, it might be good for you.

A 54 compact?? That's what I ride and I'm under 5'-9"...He'd need a heck of a long seat post and stem to make that work, but heck what do I know...

I'm 5'11 with a 34" inseam (about what most 6 ft. riders would have) and ride a 54 compact. I have only 7" of seatpost exposed.

When you say "54 compact", does that mean that your bike is has a 54cm seat tube, or that it's equivalent to a traditional frame* with a 54cm seat tube?

I have ridden a 54 Cannondale (traditional geometry), and it's on the small side, but not impossible for me.

I must have one heck of an odd shape, being 5'11" with a 32 inseam and riding a 58. Most if not all of you the same size or even bigger than me are on 56's and 54's.

Like most people have already said, this does depend on the bike you are talking about. I have a Flyte SRS-2 in a 58 and it fits me perfectly. I'm 6 feet tall with a 32" inseam. I would suggest you try out the bike and then try the same bike in the next smaller size to determine whether it would work for you or not.

I'm 5 11 with a 32 inseam and ride a 58 Rhygin.

5' 11" with a 34.375" inseam, and I ride a 58 cm Trek Madone 5.5. I swapped out the stock stem (120 mm) for one a 110. FWIW, I like feeling stretched out and getting low.

When I tried a 56, it felt too cramped and I didn't want to have a foot of seat post showing either.

Couldn't you have just flipped the stem?
