Cycleops upgrade question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycleops upgrade question

According to the cycleops website, you can upgrade a cyclops trainer's resistance unit:

Can I upgrade my trainer?
Yes. You can purchase new resistance units if your original trainer was manufactured after 1999. Please call your local dealer or our customer service department for details. 1-800-783-7257.
I picked up a mag trainer on ebay for $50 shipped, and found it to be quite loud. I wondered if anyone had gone through their upgrade deal and knew how much it is. I'm looking to upgrade to either a Fluid2 unit or a Magneto unit. Thanks

Have you tried calling CycleOps? I'm sure they don't bite.

That's my plan on the way out from work. While I'm here, I can't make personal calls like that (although I can sit on here all day), so I was trying to get a head start. Just wanted to see about getting some info first.

Dude DONT WASTE YOUR TIME With that email. It takes 2 days for a response. I tryed it for an issue I had with my car rack. I called and sat on hold a while got tired hung up sent an email then 2 days latter got tagged and they wanted me to send pictures and crap. I called them up waited about 10 minutes got a person boom RMA number. Sent in my rack they got it last friday Fedex shows my new one landed on my porch today. Just be prepared to wait on hold 10-15 minutes and you will be golden.

wrote Saris on the day you posted this. On 04/19/07 at 10:56AM I got this reply

Hello Jeff,

The Mageto & the Fluid 2 are the quiestest of our models.

We do have an upgrade program available. Basically, I would set up a return for your resistance unit. You would ship it to us, and we would ship you the new unit. Here are the costs for the upgrade:

Fluid 2: $85
Magneto: $65

Both prices include shipping back to you.

If this is something you'd be interested in, I can set up the return over email (just provide shipping & credit card information), or give our customer service department a call @ 800-783-7257.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks

less than 24 hours to get an answer, I am probably going to upgrade my trainer.

Yeah, I did the same after I got that e-mail address. I'm sending my stuff out on Monday. I got the cheap mag one I have now for $60 plus the $85 for this, and you get a Fluid 2 trainer for like $145 with a new resistance unit. Everyone should keep this process in mind when buying a trainer.
