wearing protour team kit when riding.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

wearing protour team kit when riding.

Is there a general rule with cycling, that wearing team kits is lame? or only if you can't hold your own on the road? what are your thoughts on this.

I think its just fine, it's just lke wearing your favorite soccer team jersey or basketball jersey. I don't find anything wrong with it and often times the team kits are made better than some of the other stuff.

please discuss.

Aren't we tired of discussing this? I mean it only seems to come up several times a week.

Hi vic32amg-

Welcome to BikeForums!

My preference is to wear the kit associated with my local riding club. There is something about wearing Discovery gear or USPS that I've always found over-the-top for me. It might have appealed to me as a younger person, and I've always selected the more restrained approach. There is lots of great cycling clothes out there and the choice is absolutely yours.

Why should anyone care what anyone else is wearing on the bike, unless it somehow endangers them? There was a guy here on our group ride who would wear a poncho, and that was aggravating; thankfully, he stopped doing that.

Really, if a guy wants the Trek Madone with the Disco kit, good for him! I don't choose to do it, nor do I judge those who do.

(I do think the Saunier Duval colours are in grotesque bad taste).

a poncho wow. didn't realize I was stepping on peoples toes while bringing up my FIRST thread on here. sorry. Maybe I should of started a thread stating " don't post anything on here because it's has been posted on here before-please discuss". I usually don't care what people are doing (exception being a poncho in a group ride perhaps ) I just wanted to know if there are people anal enuff to get puffy about it.

vic32amg, there are all sorts of personalities on this board. If you have a favorite team or favorite rider you should definitely feel free to show your support for them by flying the team colors!

Okay, I'll bite. What's wrong with wearing a poncho?

Oh you think it's fine, do you?

Well do you think being paralyzed with a taser and having your head slowly sawed off with the tire lever attachment of a mini-tool is "just fine" too? Huh? Do you? Because that is exactly what happened to my best friend.

Insane members of the LA Wheelmen, drunk on Scope and self-satisfaction, became enraged when they discovered that he was in fact not affiliated with CSC.

He paid with his life.

Wearing your favorite team or players jerseys is a defacto part of american fashion, I see no reason why cycling should be excluded from this.

Personally, I call a gathering of Denver riders to provide me with a consensus on what I am allowed to wear on the bike. It takes me a good month or two to get one ride in.

Seriously wear what you like. Heck wear a thong ... provided that I am not behind you (that is unless you are female).

Join a club/team and then you get to wear your own cool full race kit. Won't be a protour team but I bet it feels better flying your own flag.

Eh Personally I don't care what others think...if I did I probably would wear spandex as I am overweight. That said I don't wear a lot of PT team kit. I do have both long and short sleeve Caisse D'Epargne jerseys because I think they look very nice...I wear those. I have 3 Disco jerseys that were all gifts...one is signed by Levi, Ivan and Lance and it wont ever be worn...the other two have both been worn once when I was riding with the person that gifted them to me and I probably wont wear them much...too many Discofanboys out there. I also have a Gerolsteiner jersey which I like and wore a bunch last year but it seems like this year if you have that jersey on you are going to crash so I may not wear it. The rest of my kit is either plain or sort of silly (I have the Salsa Tequila Jersey...hey I like Salsa and Tequila).

In the end wear what you want.

I used to think people wearing a pro team jersey were OK, but those with matching shorts, socks, helmet etc. were beyond the pale, while those with matching bike as well were too awful to discuss.

Until a few years ago. One saturday my dad drove me to a criterium round Castle Coombe race track. I pointed out to him the sad loser tooling round the car park in full banesto kit on what looked from a distance like a banesto bike. I said something to my dad along the lines "Doesn't he know he can only race in club strip? Loser", and registered for the E123 race.

A few minutes into the race Jeremy Hunt, Banesto pro rides alongside. Gulp. This is going to be hard I thought. His 'training' consisted of briding up to the front attacking group then dropping back right to the back of the bunch. He did it at least 3 times without anyone being able to hold his wheel before swinging off to let the plebs contest the finish. Respect due.

P.S. He now rides for Unibet and won the GP Marseilleaise earlier this year.

Though the OCP aspects of pro kits has been discussed before, there is no consensus. How about starting a poll thread on this, vic32amg?
