Shimano Cassette on Campy 10sp

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano Cassette on Campy 10sp

Hi there-
I see lots of people asking to mix and match Campy or Shimano levers with campy or shimano ders. I have full campy record, but, have the option of buying a used wheel at a good price that runs shimano cassettes.

Is this combo possible (shimano cassette (10sp) on Campy drive train (10sp))

Thanks

It's not possible, at least as you've stated the question. The Shimano cassette will not fit on the Campy hub. Now if you're using a Shimano hub and a shimano cassette with a Campy shifter and derailleur, it may work to some degree, but won't shift well due to difference in cog spacing.

If you have a shimano hub, and cassette and otherwise a campy drivetrain you need a Jtek shiftmate, which will alter the cable pull and allow the setup to shift well

What I'm asking is if you can run a cassette with a campy drivetrain. The wheel is shimano, the cassette is shimano, the drivetrain is full campy...

Or you can buy a conversion cassette such as American Classic. It goes on a Shimano hub, but has Campy spacing to work with the Campy derailleurs. I'm eagerly awaiting the one I just bought.

I run a JTek shiftmate. I have Campy shifters and shimano everything else. I'll slowly be making the transition to all campy as money and sales permit. The JTek Shiftmate works great and to top it off they have excellent customer service. It looks like in order to run a Shimano cassette on a Campy everything else you'll need a Shiftmate #1.

I run an Ultegra cassete with my Veloce group and it shifts just fine without any addition. Maybe I was lucky but the shifting seems pretty smooth. 10speed by the way.
