Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What do you think of this bike?

What do you think of this Cannondale?

Is it a good deal for $1100? Is it a no or a go? Thanks.

It is for sale locally I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it looks good to me.

Not for $1100. Maybe ... in the range of $500 to $700 *if* it is in really really good shape.

What about the compnents overall? The Campagnolo Centaur group, and the King headset, that is all decent stuff, is it not?

That bike is what, 5 years old? 1100 is certainly too high.

Seems overpriced to me. Search ebay in current and expired listings for "caad7" or "caad8" and I believe you'll find similarly outfitted, but much newer bikes for $1K or less. the Caad4 frame has to be quite a few years old (check cannondale web site archives). The bike you're looking at, I believe, will sell for at least a couple hundred less, my guess would be $700 max. But only time will tell on ebay.

I wouldn't pay more than $700, although it's not a bad bike. It's just the owner has hideous taste in choosing accessories and colors.

Well, I think it would be a pretty cool bike if you swapped out the tires, tape and saddle to black.

But CAAD4 = 1" headtube, and the stock fork on some of those bikes is pretty heavy. (I have a CAAD4... the fork has a steel (is real) steerer.) The frame itself is reasonably light, but the fork is probably 1/2 lb or more heavier than a modern design.

So not $1100, but you should just watch the auction and put in a bid for $600 or whatever at the last minute.

What's the wheelset worth by itself?

The bike would totally rock with a black 105 groupset...

There's this jackass who's been trying forever to sell his CAAD6 (with 9spd and nothing special wheel-wise on it) on the LA craigslist. His asking price? Over two grand. Wow.
