Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Helmet tan lines

I need to start wearing a cap under my helmet. Riding out in the CA sunshine equals vertical striping. Farmers tan and raccoon face are not as confusing to non-cyclists as what I will now call the "giro."

My hair hasn't changed color beneath my helmet at all, regardless of how many miles I'm in the saddle under the sun.

Agreed. And I'm with you on that one. I usually sport a buzz-cut, so it looks damn funny if I forget lotion or a hat under my hat and go out for a while.

I always wear a cycling cap, and if it's sunny will usually sport sun screen as well, however I do shave my head so I don't have luxurious locks of hair to protect my cranium like some of you.

I am bald and have never had this happen. I spend quite a few hrs on a bike each week in the summer. 12 hrs commuting and 8 more on the weekends. However, I think this is offset by other outdoor activities.
