Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roller Adjustments

What's the proper setting for the front roller on rollers? The cycleops instructions showed the front axle directly above the rear outside edge of the front cylinder (hopefully that makes sense). i.e. If you take straight vertical line from my front axle, it'd barely touch the back (rear) edge of the front roller.

Also, what makes my tires squeak against the back set of rollers? it seems related to tire pressure

That sounds like the roller is too far forward. I have mine set so that the front axle is about ½" behind the centre of the front roller; any further back than that, and riding becomes very "twitchy", and riding "no-hands" just about impossible. YMMV -

As to your second question: Make sure the tyres and the rollers are clean. I find that running slicks (not even the slightest hint of a tread pattern) on the rollers reduce the amount of noise. Underinflated tyres will tend to squeal, so make sure they're really hard.

Yeah, it does sound like the roller is too far forward. Your skewer should be almost directly over the middle of the roller.

Yep. Front wheel axle should be directly above or slightly behind the axle of the roller.

The manual that comes with Minoura rollers say the center of the front hub should be about 15mm behind the center of the front roller. I think - I don't have the manual with me. But in any case, the hub should be slightly behind the roller.
