A premature taste of summer

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A premature taste of summer

God, it was AWESOME today. 84º @ ride time (5:30PM), breezy but so balmy who cares? The goal was to ride 30 easy recovery miles today but it was so friggin GORGEOUS out I rode a bit too hard.

Today was one of those 'THIS is why I ride a bike' days. At one point on the bike path wind was at my back as I effortlessly wheeled along @ 22mph on the Ibis Ti with the most beautiful Hudson Valley early spring vistas you can imagine unfolding before me.

Race schmace. That's not why I ride. Days like TODAY is why I ride a bike. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever will be.

It will be <60º and rainy for the latter part of the week. That's OK. Within a few weeks ALL the days will be like today for a while.

Rides like today bring out my inner fred, however briefly.

Did you freshly lube your chain?

I find that a freshly lubed chain almost always results in those I-feel-like-I'm-5-again-this-is-why-I-ride bike rides!

Incorrect.

Two of Patentcad's Rules of Cycling:

8.) You are always too fat for cycling

and

12.) It can never be too hot for cycling

In your case KP, we might have to make a provisional exemption for you on #8 there.

105F with 2% humidity is too dry and hot. The moisture is literally sucked right out of you.

Incorrect.

85º is just too damn hot. Low to mid 70's is my sweet spot.
