Has Anybody Visited A Trek Store?
 

Our local Trek SuperStore has opened but it's on the other side of town, 20 miles away. I am trying to figure out if it's worth the travel time to visit it. Anybody been to one?

It's a bike store? 20 miles is nothing to check out a new bike store. Come on.

We had two in Madison. They were fine, but not worth driving 20 miles for ... especially with gas so expensive.

Maybe worth riding 20 miles, though :)

+1, They are ok if you are a Trek fan. Lots of Trek/Nike stuff, not much else. List prices, occasional sales and clearance stuff.

There is one here local. Its okay but they carry a very limited selection of stuff. Bontrager, Nike, etc.

They do have some great mechanics and a very friendly staff, tho.

the one close to me is huge. second biggest bike shop in the area. it's worth it if you're trying to kill some time.

What make a store a superstore? Is there a list? My LBS has limited selection, I'd love to have more models and sizes to try on. I lust after a 520, think that a 21" is right...but finding one to try on would sure be nice...

I say go for it - my nearest LBS is a good 10 miles away from me.

How far do you drive to go clothes shopping at the mall?

I might drive if I was taking the wife out for a date and I said before dinner I want to stop somewhere. Other than that I'd ride.

My LBS has changed the name to a Trek store, but it appears to still be owned by the local family. Haven't actually been in there since the sign changed, just driven by a couple of times. Since my son dumped bike yesterday and bent a brifter, I'm guessing we'll be paying them a visit!

We just had one open here in San Jose, Ill never ever go back and I do ride a Trek. The customer service is far below Performance.

Thats the shop Im talking about. Id try another place.

One of my favorite LBS's is 14 miles away. A few weeks ago I had to go there five days in a row. But still, I love that shop. A wall devoted to Mavics and Zipps, and the parallel wall has a bunch of full suspension frames, a few BMC's, a Specialized S-Works and a couple of Soma's.

A couple of years ago I got a great deal on my lemond.

I've been to 2 trek store in my area. They're both pretty good. I get coupons from them once in a while, and this can sometimes beat online store or even ebay prices. :D

They just opened one up in Jacksonville. Huge place and owned by one of the local Trek dealers out at the beach. Had a huge grand opening, Bob Roll came in and had a ride ect, but when I went by on the opening, they had a lot of people there so it would have been impossible to get help if I was looking. I will drop by at some point again to see how they are. It looks like a nice setup though.

My local one as well. I bought my Lemond there, got a great deal. I consider it a Trek outlet store. He has a bunch of closeouts and not a lot of current year bikes. The guy who owns it used to be a regional sales rep for Trek, and has a lot of bike knowledge. Pretty straight to the point guy.

Seems like a great place to take a ride. Ride out there 20 miles, check out the shop and what they have, ride back another 20 miles for a 40 mile day.

I travel a lot, and have been to Trek stores in Madison (my fave), Columbus, OH; Schererville, IN and Estero (Naples area), FL. They all have helpful staffs and plenty of Trek/Bontrager/Nike items. If that's what you're into, you've found the right place. If not, it's probably not worth the drive. I've kinda found with Trek/Discovery/Nike that you either "get it" or you don't. If you do, great. If you don't, no problem, it's just a matter of taste I guess. No "wrong answers" to this question! Enjoy your Cannondale or Colnago or Cervelo and I'll enjoy my Trek. By the way, I found the staff in Madison (East) and Estero to be especially helpful and friendly.

Do you know of other shops in San Jose that service Treks well?

I have been to the ones in Madison Wi. and was not impressed, very unfriendly staff and high prices. There were several other nice bike shops there that also sold Treks. My favorite bike shop was Yellow Jersey on State Street, not a Trek dealer but awesome place to look around, I bought a Brooks saddle, they had every model in stock!

Yellow Jersey is unique - in a very good way. I finally caught on and started going there for just about everything after having various disappointing things happen w/other shops.

20 miles is nothing. I've driven 50 miles (each way) to get to a bike store before.

The Trek stores, like everyone else has said, if good if you like Trek/Nike/Bontrager. Basically, its the equivalent of going to the the Trek online store on their website. Prices are nothing spectacular unless you wait til closeout season. The one in SD is selling the SSLx for $5500 or so. Then again, thats probably what they bike should have sold for in the first place.

Do they sell those fine Bontrager saddles that come stock with the Treks and Lemonds?

If not I have one I'll let go cheap.

I find that the Trek dealers in my area are a bit pricey
