I was wondering the same thing. I feel half way ok but havent riden in a week. I have a cough and some hoarseness in my voice.

If the weather is nice enough that you can stay warm and dry - go for it. Whether it's true or not, I always believed in generating my own 'fever' at times to kill a cold. Try not to over do it though, and dig yourself into a hole. http://www.freedomcrowsnest.org/foru...miles/meds.gif

The mantra around here seems to be cold symptoms in the throat/head, you're okay to ride, but stay home if it is in the chest. And after a couple of experiences with both of those examples, I'm sticking by that rule of thumb.

This thread has my name written all over it!! I've been riding with a chest cold for about three weeks! To be honest I don't feel any worse, by riding with it. Whenever I get a chest cold, it tends to hang on for a while, and if stopped my regular activities, I would be out of commission for a while. The only days I didn't ride were the two days that I was running a fever, because I felt too weak. Try to get plenty of rest, in between your rides, which is very important. It's really your call, but if the weather is nice, and you feel energetic enough, then take your meds (non-drowsey formula) and go for it :)
PS- If you take cough drops on the ride, be careful not to swallow them, with your beverage! (Don't ask!)

I just got over a three week cold. It only lasted that long, I think, because I didn't rest enough... going out with my friends two weekends in a row and trying to ride once on my rollers.

I think resting, at least until the cold leaves your chest, is a good idea.

I ride through a cold, but not if I have a fever or feel tired.

I don't ride hard until I'm cleared up.

I asked my doctor about this once, and she said the heavier breathing would do me good.

Low intensity rides are probably fine and should help to clear things up at least temporarily. Higher intenisty stuff, will not only be torture, but they will negatively impact your immune system. Never ride with a fever.

The most recent Bicycling Magazine had an article in it about this also.
