Decible Helmet Sizing

So I ordered a Decible helmet from Specialized online. My head measured just a hair over 23.5", and as per the sizing chart I picked the Large size. I received it today and it does not feel snug at all when putting it on . It probably has a left-right play of about 3/4 of an inch, maybe a little more. It came with four foam pads (not installed), but I was under the impression it should be fairly snug without additional padding. Should I send it back and swap for the next size down?

Did some looking around, and the one Specialized dealer in town doesn't stock and won't stock the Decible, so I don't have a reference point for the smaller size. I'm thinking I'm OK swapping for the medium, but am looking for anyone with experience in how their sizes run.

EDIT: And, of course, I realize how stupid asking sizing questions is online, but it's all I have at the moment.

If it helps, I found the size L Decibel to be just a touch smaller than my older size L Atmos. Size for size, though, they're very similar.

I ordered an Aurora that has the same closure system as the Decibel. I fit into the top end of small. It fits fine, but is maybe a little snug with a skullcap. But I did try on a medium Decibel at the LBS recently, with a skullcap on for reference. The medium was too big. So I'd say the size chart works, but when in doubt (my measurement does put me just into the medium range too), order down.

Did you tighten the rear retention system? My Decibel can feel extremely loose or extremely tight depending on where those things are adjusted. And yeah, there's a reason I try not to buy shoes or helmets online.

+1 on the retention system.

I tightened the retention system almost all the way, and it feels a little off. Definitely tighter, but not as snug and conforming as I think it should feel.
