Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He finished 6th in one of the hardest bike races on the planet despite having shat himself as a result of some significant GI disease that would've probably left us mere mortals off the bike for a week.

It's nasty, but it's freakin' hard core.

I'm quite sure that if I felt the warm and squishies on my chamois in the middle of a race I'd politely excuse myself and call it a day. And I'm OK with that.

True story: at the Olympics in Mexico (IIRC), some of the US rowers cut holes in their trou (basically biker shorts w/o chamois) because they had the squirts.

For those of you who haven't rowed: 1) some water inevitably gets in the boat; 2) the acceleration caused by each stroke is quite brutal for top men; and 3) said water spashes around spraying your team mates.
