Shimano new groupset
Hey guys,
I've heard from some insiders that Shimano may introduce a new groupset that's between ultegra and DA, to compete with Campy Chorus. I think this will be sad as my 10 speed ultegra stuff (haven't sold yet) will be delegated to third of the line. Seems like DA electric will be the top of the line. |
what are you asking for the ultegra stuff? And what stuff?

Between Ultegra and DA?
Seems a bit odd to me, the difference isn't enough for me as it is to justify the cost... |
That works for me, Ultegra is the bomb, hopefully used and new will be less expensive.

Left shifter...right one broke Brakeset, front and rear derailleur. For the front derailleur ( I have both clamp on 31.8 and braze on (which also have a 31.8 adaptor clamp) FD) Chain |

Besides the carbon, how is Chorus better than DA?

Since Ultegra was a name taken from their line of fishing reels, I'm hoping that this new group, if it exists, is called "Moocher Plus."

Shimano, unlike Campy, revamps their groups one at a time. The new group sounds like step one. Step two would be to bring DA up to Record level the year after the new group is introduced. That will be about the correct time for a revamp anyhow. DA 10 sp has been with us for almost 4 years. Even though I prefer Campy, Shimano beats Campy in it's marketing. No one markets bike parts better than Shimano. Tim |

I suspect the main reason folks say that is b/c DA is at the top of the Shimano hiearchy and Chorus is #2 and is less expensive. Not taking into consideration the things that make Campy Campy and Shimano Shimano (hood size, Campy rebuildability) Chorus weighs 2050 gms for the group while DA weights 2060. Since Chorus is usually "last years" Record, it's full of trickle down from Campy's top group. As you pointed out DA has remain unchanged for some time now. So what exactly makes DA better than Chorus? Having owned both as well as record, I don't see it. That said, Shimano has its loyalist as does Campy but when you compare the two groups and their performance one being better than the other just doesn't pan out. But I'm really open to hearing one way or the other. JR |

But I'm really open to hearing one way or the other. JR My original statement that Chorus is between Ultegra and DA was based on the 06 groups, to be honest, I forgot about Ultra Torque cranks. That was the big difference between Shimano and Campy. As far as performance goes that was Shimano's only advantage. There is no way you can say one group beats another based on a 10 gram weight advantage. I ride Campy, but look what DA gives you for an extra 10 grams, an alloy crank and dual pivot brakes front & rear. IMO, aluminum cranks are less failure prone than carbon. Plus, I would rather have dual pivot brakes front & rear. That's why I chose Centaur. It was the last all alloy group Campy made. Unfortunatley, Campy had to spread the carbon cancer down to Centaur.:D The above explanation was a personal rant/explanation. It should be taken with a grain of salt. Tim |
