Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Deda Electa Handlebar

I have a brand new build using the Deda Electa bar and Campy Ergo Shifters. Trouble is I can't mount these in a location that will allow a flat surface to the hoods. I tried bringing the shifter higher to alleviate the slight low spot between the curve and the hoods but the cables have a hard time entering their cable channels if I mount too high. Has anyone out there ever setup these bars? If you have, what was your measurment from the bottom of the bar to the tip of the shifter lever? Is it uncommon to put more tape in the low section or am I up to high?

bump...I'm desperate...this bar was a lot of money so I hope there's a solution.

i have no clue on this one. usually, i can get a pretty good idea by looking to see what can be done. i looked at a picture of a naked bar, and it looks like the flat part that is on most bars is VERY short on these electas. not sure what can be done besides shifting the hoods back which you said you already tried. if i could see it better, i might be able to think of something, but maybe not. good luck.

(hopefully others with more experience with these bars post now)

Here are some more pics. Does anyone notice anything out of place? Maybe its just the design of the bars. If that's the case I'm screwed.

looks like the reach of the bars is just too short to allow for a flat transition.

These Deda bars have an 83.5mm reach. I had no idea that reach was an issue for transitioning to a flat. Deda has always made it known to design their bars around Campy shifters.

i don't think its the reach, but i see what you are getting at bdcheung and agree with you. the issue to me is the top 1/2 of the bar. looks like there is only an inch or so of flat before is starts its long plunge downward instead of presenting a longer flat part before turning. that is not a smart design imho.

I went to my LBS for a second opinioni and they said it looked great to them. And they acutally thought it felt great along with my friend. Looks like I'll just have to ride it for a while and see what happens. Sure would like to hear from other end users though.

The bottom of the drops must be level and so must the flats of the shifters. You will have a hard time shifting from the drops otherwise.

I tried this scenario and it didn't work. Keeping the bottom of the drops level and the shifters level was not possible due to severe cable cutting in the cable channels under the bar. Do you happen to own these bars and have experience with them?
