SRAM Cassettes

Hey -

I'm thinking about getting a SRAM 11 - 26 cassette. With a compact crank, this (for me at least) is pretty much the ideal range. However, I've heard that these cassettes aren't super smooth shifting, at least compared to Shimano (I ride an Ultegra 12 - 25 10 speed currently). Does anyone have experience with SRAM cassettes that they can share?

Thanks,

Hoff

Mine shifts fine, even with friction shifters. It gets persnickety on the missing tooth cogs when wet and dirty though, like it wants to shift up or down. If you ride in dry conditions only, no problem.

I run a 8sp SRAM with shimano 8sp changers. Its plenty smooth for me.

I havent really noticed a difference between SRAM and Shimano cassettes.

SRAM 9 speed cassette for the touring ratios, 11-34. No problems in my experience. Don't know how the 10 speed stuff works with the missing teeth to aid in shifting, but for the 9 speed with shimano drivetrain it worked fine by me.

I put an SRAM Force 12-26 9 speed cassette on my bike this spring (replaced an Ultegra 12-25). No problems noted except it shifts better than the worn out cassette that it replaced.

Check your wheels for compatibilty first with the Sram 10 speed cassette. The newer 10 only hub may not work with the Sram. Used Sram 9 speed - no problems.

I've got Ultegra 10, SRAM 11-26 cassette, and the Shimano R700 cranks and everything works just fine.

I've been using 970s for a couple years, I find they shift smoother and quieter than the Ultegra I have.

Not much difference, but I prefer my SRAM pg970 12-26 to the shimano105 12-25 I was using. I'm also using a SRAM chain, if it matters. Oh, 9speed setup.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

The setup you have Jim is exactly what I will have, so that's good to know!

I've used SRAM 12-26 casettes on my cross bike w/ Shimano 105 9spd group. No problems at all. Shifting is very smooth.

SRAM 10 Speed cassettes are great -- cheaper and lighter than Ultegra, and I like the shifting better.

I use the Sram 11-26 and it works fine. No shift problems as of yet.
