Too Much Float in Keo Red Cleats?

Has anyone ever had the red Keo cleats with 10 degrees of float and decided that there was too much float? I'm using the grey cleats (5 degrees) and am wondering if I need more, but is there such a thing as too much for a recreational rider?

Speedplay X series have 20 degrees of flot and Zeros have 15 degrees of float. And, it's free float, not centering float. Many of us with bad or surgically repaired knees need more float (and the right kind).

Yeah, I don't think you can have too much float from a mechanical standpoint, it's just a matter of whether or not you like that feel. I have Speedplays, and I love the huge amount of float.

Yes, you can have too much float. If you're at max float and you're still having knee problems try using less float or even fixed.

Just pick up a pair and try them out. If they don't suit you all you're out is $20. That's cheap when it comes to bikeys!

Actually, it's 9 degrees and 4.5 degrees...

:D

More float tends to be better for riders who need a little confidence and the feeling they can get out of the pedal. In reality, you move you foot a little bit further to get out of the pedal with float, but lose that "claustrophobic" feeling that some people have regarding being locked into the pedal.

My right foot is significantly splayed out. Using the grey cleat turned as far as possible to the outside of the shoe still resulted in it feeling like my entire right leg was being twisted inward. That is painful to say the least. I now run a grey on the left and a red on the right. Looks a bit strange but I really prefer the float in the grey cleat but am required to run the red cleat. Guess I could switch the left as well. Poor non OCP me. :p
I guess the answer would be that it is too much float but I have a need for it.

I went black, zero float. I couldn't stand the red float. Yes, they do have to be set up right. I find that they are much easier to release from since any side movement starts the release process. On the red cleats you have to turn your foot at least 4.5 degrees before the release starts.
