Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

sore thumbs while climbing. ??

climbed up a local hill today thats always a good workout for me. i chose to stand for the majority of time to test some things out. half way up i noticed that my thumbs were beginning to get sore. sore to the point i wanted to sit down rather than stay standing. i know it is from the pressure im putting on my hands while standing. questions is,

do any of you have any advice on how to reduce this soreness? new gloves? add extra handlebar tape to that part of the bars? i was on the hoods of the shifters, should i place my hands somewhere else?

Where on the bars are your hands when standing and climbing...

If on the hoods, you should gently pinch the hoods between the thumb and index finger...

Do not rest your weight between the thumb and index finger...
