--Edit-- Just read this website: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff222834.htm
In short, you're signing up for a sunglasses-of-the-month club. they'll charge you every month, yadda yadda, no free lunches. shipping and handling per item? That sucks. Also, I did some research into Vanquish Eyewear and found this:

From: Nat and Matt Colbert [natalie.and.matthew@worldnet.att.net] RE: Vanquish Eyewear - www.vanquisheyewear.com - sunglasses arrived 8 weeks after ordering - unable to get through to customer service representatives The web-site is www.vanquisheyewear.com - Thanks Complaint details: I foolishly ordered sunglasses, over the web from Vanquish Eyewear, also known as Gattaca Eyewear (a division of Matrix Mailing) First issue: The sunglasses arrived EIGHT (8) weeks after ordering, although their guarantee was 2–3 weeks after ordering. Second issue: When I rang to question the location of the eyewear, I couldn’t get through to any customer service representatives. I e–mailed twice to try and find out the status of the order and did eventually receive a reply, telling me they were on their way, but I couldn’t be told an arrival date.. Third issue: The sunglasses arrived and were in poor condition, and not of the quality stated in the advertisements, they also didn’t fit my face. I therefore returned six out of the seven pairs. I returned the sunglasses immediately, the day after receipt and well within the return period. Fourth issue: Vanquish Eyewear does nor appear to want to return my money, a total of $90.60. I have sent two e–mails requesting information, and I have left a voice message with the customer service department (which doesn’t answer it’s phones). I have not heard any response. I would appreciate all consumers warned of this issues when dealing with this company, and any assistance that complaints.com can achieve, Thanks, Natalie Colbert Vanquish Eyewear order (100250) From: A Date: Thursday, 08-Feb-07 15:08:05 CST I purchased sunglasses from this Vanquish eyewear they claimed to have a 5X more scratch resistant coating on their products and claimed that the prices comparible for a simular product would be far more expensive up around $150 US a pair only to have the 4 pairs I bought be scratched within a week of use. They are not willing to compensate me because of their 30 day refund poilicy however I was looking for an exchange on the purchase and they don't claim an exchange policy. I am only writing you so that you can maybe save some other people from getting ripped off by this company that is advertising in national magazines. Complaint #: 16671 |

They look pretty cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. Nothing.
|
the site has already crashed. interesting....
no, there is no such thing as a free lunch. edit: hhm, worked the second time around. nevermind. look cheap though... |
Scam. Well not really but explain why S&H is 5 times for one pair of glasses over another. Just hit the swap meet.
|
They're not free, exactly. Try putting some in the shopping cart. Free glasses, but $20 EACH for shipping. Save yourself the trouble and go to Walmart.

Go by your local safety suply company. Some modern safety glasses are light, stylish, and inexpensive.

Go by your local safety suply company. Some modern safety glasses are light, stylish, and inexpensive. I remember going into a a welding shop years ago and finding some nice cheap tinted safety glasses that lasted a long time, I've also gotten ones that are polarized. Safety glasses have the added degree of safety or plain old sunglasses this website seems so familiar, I remember seeing a blow in print ad somewhere a long time ago very simialr, maybe even the same name. |
Nashbar has name brands on sale too.
|
Just get some from campmor. dirt cheap and good.

Correct that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but sometimes you can get other suckers to pay for your lunch.
I didn't look at this sunglass deal yet to see how it works, but a while back there was a site that would give out free ipods. You had to do these trial offers of various services (some free, some at minimal cost), and get friends to do the same, but they really did give out ipods. I have a friend who got one. They get paid by the companies who's services you try out (per trial, per person). Obviously most people aren't going to try enough services or get enough friends to try it to get a free ipod so, in effect, all the people who didn't do enough to get their ipod pay for yours. Scheme? Yes. Scam? Not really. |
Not really a rip-off as long as you read the agreement before submitting the web form
I sigend up for two pair. They came within two weeks. They are polarized and one pair came with replacement lenses. For $20 each they seem to be worth considering AS LONG AS you do not check the box saying you wanted to be sent additional pairs. After learning of this I called them up and corrected this. They were agreeable and courteous. So far not a bad deal. Taking them out for a ride I found them stable and light and effectively shielded my eyes from all wind. They may be of mediocre quality (I wouldn't know never having had a pair for road riding before) but I would have had to pay the same amount or more for polarized wrap-arounds with the lens extending to the temples for wind control anyway.
