Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best bike shop for Campy Buildup in NYC or Brooklyn

I live near R&A in brooklyn but could go to the city as well. Who can tune the best with the Italian ways... All Campy that is! Anyone have any recommendations or experience?

i don't understand.

you live nearby one of the biggest shops in the city, who happen to ship out hundreds, if not thousands, of campagnolo equipped bikes every year, and you're asking for a reference for a shop to service your bike?

I would never use a shop that took upwards of 2 weeks to fix my bike. Conrads in NY looks cool, but Racer Sportif in London, Ontario usually does my bike same day or the next. And both mechanics are older European ex racers who still ride and know their sh%t.

Obviously I know the reputation of R&A here I'm just looking for options. As customer relations is everything to me. Thank you I will be calling Conrad's.

If you knew the shop, perhaps you would know why.I can imagine why. I can't speak for him though

+1 on Conrad's being one of the best bike shops in NYC. They've been doing Campy since Nouvo Record.

Conrad's was the original high-end bike shop in Manhattan. Their service is second-to-none and has been that way for over 25 years. Not affiliated with Conrad's in any way other than as a well-cared for customer.

To be fair, R&A might have been around almost as long as Conrad's, but who needs the attitude. If I want rude, I'll go to Luger's - at least there it's done for show and you can have great steak.

Umberto at Master Bikes on 74th off Broadway. The guy was the master mechanic at Toga and opened up his own shop a couple of year ago. The guy is a total perfectionist and Campy guy and will set you right and proper. I've got him on speed dial 212-580-2355

I can offer you some experience, I understand the whole Italian thing when talking Campy but setting up a bike with modern Campy components is not rocket science. We're not talking about estimating computer controlled yaw rates in a F1 race car here.

Yep it's all 10 speed on a more vintage steel frame. I can't deal with attitude even if it's closer by. I'll go farther away to establish a good relationship with a shop. Someone come up with a good analogy to dating a girl please.

as much as everyone whines about the service, and the attitude, i had a perfectly fine experience with them.

I've dealt with R&A for years and haven't had one bad experience. Well, unless you count the time they didn't call me when the bike was ready...I called them. Wow. Horrible service. Had to pick up the phone and dial.

Try to get to know Felix. He's a great guy, a bit eccentric maybe, but great.

Completely agree, or to be succinct: correct.

OK ... some have had good dealings with them that's cool,I have too, some being the operative word.
Anyway it's good you're vouching for them whether I or the OP agrees. He has reasons perhaps.I simply stated what I did, leaving room for speculation and those who wished to weigh did,OK too. The point is choice, the OP wants a choice,it's that simple. Besides, who's whining ? I guess folkes in other posts huh? Interesting, the blurb, rocket science or the rates thing, strange analogy, I never said anything similar to that to a client when the wanted me to rebuild a set of twin overhead cam cylinder heads, that's not rocket science either you see, medical procedures aren't either for that matter,Ok a metaphor,I get it. I've had skilled experiences bicycle techs perform certain tricky if not complex services for me including:
set-up drive-trains,tweak shifting components, I can, they do it better, my choice, it's about choice.
