Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Podium finishes

How many of you have actually finished on the podium in a cat 4 racer or higher? And if so how many times?

The 10th place was actually a 1st place. I was relegated for being an "obstruction" after the finish line.

I slowed down 50m after the finish (the race is over) and two guys sprinting for 8th almost ran into me. No crash. One rider messed up his front wheel when he ran into the other rider. I was blamed by our wonderful USCF rep and NOT the riders involved. Relegated to the back of the finishing group.

Our USCF rep is kind of a jackass. I asked for an upgrade after every win. After winning State I asked for an upgrade and was denied on the spot, he statied I needed "a few more races". Two days later, I get an e-mail saying that I've been given a MANDATORY upgrade.

Won a 4/5 race early in the season while racing as a 5. 3rd at Rock Hill cat 4 crit. 2nd at Meadowmont cat 4 crit. 3rd last week at Dixie Classic combined 3/4 race. Also several 4th or 5th place finishes, but those don't meet your criteria.

Tomorrow night at ACE? Well, we'll find out!

I won a few races back in the "old days" (cat 3), but we didn't get to stand on podiums. We just went over to some guy by the registration tent and got handed our winnings ....... $30 or so ....

I'm an old fart now, started riding again after 15 years off , and struggling in the 4s.
