Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think this year I'll throw some spare parts in the car just in case.
That was cydewaze with a couple cogs reversed. That was funny, when he would shift down, he would actually shift up a gear. Darn pre-event cog cleaning was to blame for that one.
You bring the parts, I'll bring the tools.

Well, okay, we'll keep you on if you're gonna beg like that...

And where's our invitation to the Hotter than Jalapenos ride?? I'm feeling distinctly dissed.

And Cydewaze, what's this "Between the move and everything - almost no riding." ?! I didn't come in yesterday's mail. How's your mountain doing, really?

Hey, thanks for the heads-up on this. My kid sister (the one I posted a picture of here) just got her first roadie (Giant TCR) and was looking to hook up in some events. She lives in York, PA.

Heck, I should ship my bike and join her!

HE-double L YA, you should join us I'm guessing it's only about a 30 minute drive from your sister's house to the ride start.

No problem at all I should thank you for having the problem. Because of that happening, I now know how to remove, and clean my cassette. Prior to that, I had no idea how to do it.

I hate to break it to you, but The Knave has preregistered and been heard muttering the phrase "training is for wussy" under his breath when asked about people who skip the ride. I mean, not that he's throwing down the gauntlet or anything.

To any nOObs who may be doubting whether or not to join us, I offer the simple philosophy of a Nike commercial:

JUST DO IT!

Seriously, there are riders with all ranges of ability who show up. One of the most impressive things about last year's ride was how supportive everyone was of the newer riders. It totally dispelled the myth of snobby roadies. Sure, there was a point where the hammer dropped, but everyone regrouped later. Of all the rides I did last year, this one was my favorite. I repeat:

JUST DO IT!

Well, I'm not a n00b to cycling as much as new to you all. I'm a bit of a b00b to cycling, but that's a story for another time...

Yeah, it seems like an "enjoy the day" ride for the forum members here rather than a smack-talking, frame-pump-in-your-opponents-front-wheel, puke-at-the-finish-line slugfest...not that there's anything wrong with that. I can hang with a 16-18mph metric, I'm just not into (or capable of) racing.

Now I just have to make sure I don't have to work. Looks like too nice a ride to miss!

That happens only if there is just one ice cream left at the finish!

Me too- I don't think I'll have to work, so I'm just gonna register. Sounds like there will be a bunch of us Philly folk there. It's going to be great meeting fellow BFers

BTW, since we're talking about PA- is anyone doing the Freedom Valley ride next month?

Ok, maybe I don't have as much work ahead of me as I though.

I've been watching what I've been eating for the last 2 weeks, and this morning when I stood on the scale, I was down a little over 3 lbs. On todays ride, I felt like a different person than my last ride. Felt much stronger and seemed to recover a lot faster. Maybe it's because I finally have clear lungs (was sick a few weeks ago), but for whatever reason, I felt great. Not at my peak or anything, but compared to how dismal I felt before, it was a big change.

Only 13 more lbs to go and I'll be ready for Lancaster!

Well for the first time since I joined BF I am off on weekends, now if I can get a lift out of Burlington NJ or Philly I would love to attend this year.

Cheers,

Brian
