So...How was Bike to Work Day?
Chilly and damp in the DC area. I donned a pair of windpants over my shorts, full-finger gloves, and didn't see much too much bike traffic aside from the pit stop area. This could be the result of my late start (I arrived at work at 9! eekk...I hope I'm wasn't awol), the bad weather, or the fact that I rarely commute and don't know what is/isn't considered busy. The official pit stop in Crystal City, however, had a few stragglers and some nice, warm coffee.
What say you?

For me, every week day is bike to work day. Pleasure as usual. Although this morning I got my first flat in 1500 miles, so that sucked.

Relatively cold. Got a late start, didn't eat breakfast, and bonked on the way in (my commute is 50 miles round trip).
I successfully got 10 others to ride their bikes in this week - almost all of them rode in today. I supported the local LBS by spending $250 in raffle prizes as incentives, and sent 3 others over for parts adding up to another couple of hundred.
4 have mentioned getting new bikes (ones who didn't ride). 1-2 have mentioned upgrading. 1 guy decided to upgrade his HED base bars, and can't decide if he should keep his Flashpoint wheels, or go Ksyrium SLs for training, or just get Zipps and be done with it......(seriously).
Every single person has said something to the effect of "I can't believe how easy that was." or "It was actually a little bit quicker than by car." or "I'm going to call the city to see if they can clean up that shoulder."...etc.....
Yeah....it's been a good week/day...

My bike to work day was just about like all the other 160 bike to work days per year. I got up. I rode. I saw some ducks.
Denver's Bike-to-Work Day isn't until the middle of June and that's the day that everybody rides their bikes to work, complains about how hard it is, get rewarded by the company for saving the planet and then they put their bikes away until the next year. Meanwhile, I keep plugging away...in cold...in rain...in summer heat...during blizzards...after blizzards when the glaciers are forming... and get...
Nothin'! I'm just the weird guy who rides his bike all the time.

I was all set to ride to work today but the weatherman predicted "catastrophic flooding" so I decided maybe I'd take a rain check. (Har-dee-har, get it? "Rain check", oy, I'm funny. Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week folks...Don't forget to tip your waitress.)
Besides, I rode to work Monday & Tuesday. And did hill repeat training yesterday morning before work, and am supposed to do a hilly century tomorrow provided the weather cooperates. So screw Bike-To-Work-Day, I'm resting!

Not too shabby, if you consider all the schwag that local sponsors gave out. I scored two Starbucks "Bike to Work Day" water bottles (I dig having lots of water bottles), several snack bars, etc.
I was able to hit no less than 4 different commuter stations on my way in to work this morning. The first was kind of a let-down, the second was a total surprise as I didn't know it'd be there (scored a bottle and a snackbar - and me and my Tarmac might be on the local news as there was a TV camera there), hit another in front of my building where I met up with one of my bosses who also rode in, and then yet another table of goodies in the parking garage of my building outisde the showers (courtesy of Starbucks). Speaking of which, if ya'all haven't tried their Verona drip coffee, it's pure caffeinated bliss in a cup.

Broken toe. Haven't been able to ride for a bit over a week at all.

May gray, but nice!
I rode in with a co-worker. I normally do all of my riding after work or on the weekends, so this was a first for me. Typical San Diego May overcast, but not windy at all. We took some busier streets (Friars) but the traffic wasn't bad at all. I'm going to do this again.

more people than usual. got in a line with like 10 people going up one of my hills, that was nice
also got my first flat in 1000 miles (stupid construction leaving gravel everywhere). 50+ bikes passed me, not a single one said a thing. oh, except the old guy that chuckled and said "Bummer." i must just look like i know what i'm doing aside from that, the free snacks and a patch kit it was about the same. it's nice to see this many bikes out though. there were enough of us to take the lane with some authority and a couple intersections where it can get a little tight.

34 miles. 20 miles or smoothly paved recreational trail and 14 miles of industrial city streets covered with railroad tracks and pot holes. My Bontrager Selects now need truing
At least Starbucks gave out free coffee, pastries and Cliff bars.

Like the OP, it was chilly and damp in Bethesda. There were lots of people at the pit stop, though, and I did get my nifty free t-shirt. The Capital Crescent Trail was marginally more crowded than normal, but that might've been b/c I went in today a little earlier than normal...
I always wonder how many BF people there are in those crowds of local cyclists. If I'd thought about it, I would have posted a thread last night suggesting that all BF types wear their BF kit so we could identify each other...

It was great to see more cyclists. Free water bottles never hurt either. Tried the Clif Z-bars they were handing out. Supposedly for kids, but found they're perfect for me. Not as heavy as a regular Clif bar, and tastes more like a cookie.

Well like many others here most days for me are bike to work days...have you seen the price of gas lately?
But today I had an issue on my hands...my wife is out of town and my 5 yr old needs to get to school (no bussing to private Kindergarden)...plus it was supposed to rain...and be 40°. Well last night before bed I asked Sebe if he wanted to bike to school in the morning and he was all for it, so I hooked up the trailer-bike so we could just hop on and go this morening. Still wouldn't have done it in the rain but it held off for us so we bundled him up and headed out in the brisk 45° morning. He loved it and the teachers were shocked when he ran into his room with his helmet on. LOL
It is actually pretty nice as it about doubled my commute and also had me go through down town so I was able to hit the local bike advocacy's bike to work day festival (they actually close a block of a street downtown and setup cycling stuff, free coffee, demos, a blender that is bike powered...).
All in all good day and I look forward to the ride home.

I had planned to meet a small group of Capitol types but missed them as they crossed the Sacramento. Either they were ahead of schedule or took a different bridge than announced. Chased hard and arrived at the West Steps in time to see them do their media interviews. No biggie. I still got my free water bottle and Clif Bar.
I don't have a computer on that particular bike, but comparing the route on g-map pedometer (38 miles) against my stopwatch (1:45), I get an average of 21.7mph. Which is not only a commute record, but is actually faster than the bike leg of my last Tri!
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to convince any new coworkers to try bike commuting.

Met up with a couple of people from the local bike commuting Meetup group for a Bike to Work Day "bike train" for a few miles of the route. Around here, three people is definitely a train! It was fun to meet some new folks and share the ride. Even saw another group of 3 riders headed in another direction. Five other commuters is usually my weekly count We even got a friendly honk and wave from someone.
It was rainy, but I got less wet than I did on Tuesday when I tried to time my commute in between storm systems (stayed dry halfway). Hopefully won't be too stormy for the ride home.
We have no energizer stations of which you speak.

Oh yeah...I got a nifty, red t-shirt too. And then I promptly left it next to my bike as secured my frame to the rack. Hours later, my bike was still there, but the t-shirt was not.
Somewhere out there, some "fraud" is wearing my bike to work shirt. I hope the red dye bleeds off onto his whites.
