Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sweet! So does this mean i'm faster than Ryanf?

A few weeks ago he posted pics of his computer, what was it 30 miles @ 19.1mph? And then he came out saying that he stopped his computer a few times when he had to stop.

26.5 miles
1:22:06
19.3
And i don't stop the computer

I told him i'd have his mark by the end of the month, when he gets back he better be ready to have a hammer droped on his toosh

Sorry, the endorphins are still flowing

Ok, according to his photos:

21.04mi @ 19.5

39mi @ 21.2

44.98mi @ 20.2

40.0 @ 18.3

But ride for yourself, if you want to race someone, race the guy on your wheel, not a guy across the country.

Trust me, i know it.

To an extent at least, i still believe if you compare it to yourself on the same/similar route it is telling, this was certainly my fastest ride of the season across this terrain and of this length. Which is sad, as its pretty slow.

But how many inches around are you guads? That is at least as important as average speed.

We have a BFer who's going for the hour record. Tell me he's not thinking about average speed.

I dunno, i still agree with them to a great extent. Ryan and i are in different states. It would be kind of hard to compare the two rides.

Comparing two average speeds is nearly useless unless they are riding the same course, on generally the same day or weather conditions. I'm sure I could match just about any Cat2 or higher cyclist's average speed over 5mi distance. Put them on a HC climb in the alps in December, and put me on a decent downhill straight away with a 20mph tail wind. Yeah, if you compare Avg Speed and Distance alone - I'd look fast compared to them.

It has nothing to do with TT's vs. crits or "cat racing" whatever that is. If you're training for a 1-hour TT, then sure, by all means, go for the highest average speed.

As a super duper TT guy, you'd want to go for an hour at, say, 30mph. As a P/1/2 crit racer, you might race for an hour with an average speed of, say, 30mph. The two are NOT the same thing.
