Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I brought my road bike out from winter retirement; cleaned the crusty black gunk from between the cogs, adjusted and oiled all the moving parts and slapped on some new handle bar tape and a cycling computer. As soon as this crappy New England weather let's up - I am looking forward to some 53-12 action and some serious ridage.. I'm pretty psyched, just thought I'd share the good news.

I've been lumbering my fat azz along on my CF poseur bike all winter, through rain, sleet, freezing rain, a little snow, and sub-freezing temperatures. I've already raced 8 times this season.

Wow. In case I didn't feel silly about getting into that argument in your other thread, I sure as hell do now.

Does lugged steel freeze below 50 degrees or something?

It's still winter up here in New England. The leaves started to come out the first week of May this year, -then we had a week and a half of Summer weather, and now it's winter again.

Yeah, I don't like to ride my road bike through the snow/wet/ salty winter conditions. To many gears and moving parts to muck up with the mud and sand and salt. I actually road it for about two months during November and December - after having destroying my fixed gear frame trying to get out a stuck seat post, and in those two months of riding I managed to get the drivetrain and other parts thoroughly mucked up. From now on I'm just taking the road bike out it dry/good conditions.

No, steel 'freezes' at approx 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. My brifters however do not seem to work well when the temp gets below or around ~ 10-20 degrees F.
