Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

had one and liked it. it worked as advertised. the HR function was spot on. main dislike was the seperate speed and cad sensor. i prefer the look of a smaller combined sensor for those functions. i upgraded to the Edge as i was hot for GPS! otherwise, i would still have it. later.

I have a Polar 200. HR monitor is good. It gets a little dirty and won't work. Frustrating when it happens during a ride. Clean it regualr and it works like a charm.

I was expecting a little more for the money but it works well. There seems to be a delay when you start riding before the numbers come up. I spent about two hours trying to install not realizing it wasn't instant. Nice clean look. Probably more functions than I use.

Keeps track of the previous 8 rides. i don't down load anything but I hear it doesn't work as well as some of the other options out there. For the money I am sure there are better options

Thats the thing. For the money I'm not sure there are better options. The Edge 305 is $100 more. The 205 doesn't do HR. I also like that it stores a week. I'm doing a week long ride w/o access to power so I can't recharge a 305 and don't have time to go the mintyboost route.

By the time you buy the computer and the cadence sensor, might as well pop for the Edge. Heart rate is just as reliable and you get way more data.

Im not sure which way Id go if I didnt have an Edge tho (Which I know you do).. Maybe a Cateye or something. I hated the CS200.

I don't mind the cs200. I have not used anything but cheap computers. It seems like the Edge is the popular choice. The 200 has about everything I need. I do now wish I would have spent a little more for the edge. I do think I will use the 200 for some time as there are too many other items I want.

It is nice to have a weeks worth of rides stored. The computer is easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. I got mine a little cheaper without the cadense sensor. I pretty much know what I am spinning.

I returned my Edge 305 because I couldn't get the power situation worked out. I do have a Polar S120 HR. I really wish I could get a CS200 w/o paying for another chest strap.

I like my CS200 with cadence. Heart monitor is accurate and doesn't seem to have the reported problems the Garmin does. Not having to charge it is a plus. Minuses - you don't get cool (and useful) GPS stuff, no altitude, bulky speed and seperate cadence sensor. SonicLink works but easier to enter data manually. No mac support.

For the price I think it is a good option. In retrospect, wish I had gone with the Garmin and will probably upgrade just to get more bells and whistles. But I generally don't have the charging issue, which would be a killer for the Garmin.

I notice the CS100b has the "option to add HR later". Wonder if that just means it comes w/o a chest strap. I've actually got 2 already.

OP - I have the 725i. Functionality is quite good, although the wireless transmitter for speed did not work well with an extra Cateye wheel magnet - had to use the Polar-supplied one. Installation - w/rubber pads and zip-ties - can be a bit tricky with non-standard tube shapes and forks, but once it's on, it's not a problem. Mashing the buttons on the side of the unit to march through the displays is not very easy while riding/in a paceline, etc. The unit makes a pretty bulky watch, but a rather small computer display; the top line that can be set to rotate through all the metrics is rather hard to read. The data - great info; good for sizing up my progress (or lack thereof).

If I were in the market now, though, I'd be buying a GPS-based unit. In fact, I have a feeling the good people at Polar are shaking in their boots at the thought of trying to keep up with the market without a GPS unit to compete w/Garmin.

I've got $65.21 in Team Performance points which puts the CS200 price at $85 if I can do w/o cadence. This could be a no-brainer.

I have the CS200. I'd prefer a cat-eye for interface. I'm not a fan of polars cadence and speed censor size/placement.

The Edge needs recharging after 12 hours or so. I'll be riding 5-6 hours a day for 7 days straight w/no access electricity.

I got one and its now on the fixed...I loved it so much that I was thinking of just getting a cheap GPS....

But after finding a 350 bundle at 250...I said f-it....I think the polar chest strap is coded and its really comfy...but not that much more than the 305....the polars speed sensor can be a bit tricky...

what power supply problem???

CS150, paid about $30 on sale at Performance...had to get it at that price!

Things I don't like:
The plastic face looks really wierd in the sun with sunglasses on....hard to read numbers
The menu/functions are not very user friendly
The wrist watch mount is bulky and looks lame (bought an Atomic Mount and works much better now)
...changing batteries needs to be sent in

I think I paid about the same... had points too. For that price it is worth it.

I have had some issues when riding with other people (my two main riding partners have the same cpu)... sometimes they crosstalk if we are riding close, and the speed/distance measurements get mixed up. Typically we will ride the same route and end up with three differing opinions on the length of the ride.

Also, the cadence sensor mounts at a strange angle. I wasn't able to mount it anywhere on my Soloist that actually worked... It was always too far from the CPU to receive transmissions. If you have strange aero tubes like that bike, I wouldn't recommend the cadence version.

I've got a CS200cad and it works very well. I picked it up for ~145 at Performance after applying whatever Performance Bux I had. There's a bit of a delay as others have noticed when starting up on the cadence but the HR is good and the functions while riding are easy to access. I do wish the buttons were a bit larger to accommodate these sausages at the ends of my hands. My biggest gripe is the way you have to download the data. C'mon, using a speaker and microphone??? And if you have a Mac, you've got to go to a third party. Overall, however, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Ok, I have the CS200 with all the bells and whistles. It hasn't worked for a week since the day I bought it. I have new batteries and the chest strap is clean. New downloaded software and the head unit is mounted off of the front of my handle bars. It constantly goes to pause while I'm flying at 25mph. It counts my heart rate and jumps while waiting on the side of the road changing a tire to 280bpm! Other times it will switch to lap time, then back to normal. Auto ON/OFF is off. Polar is no help. I have 3k miles on it maybe someday I'll move on.

I have a CS200 with cadence. I have had it for a little over a year, with absolutely no problems. The cadence sensor is mounted on my seat tube right above the front deraulleur (versus the manual telling you to put it on the downtube). The display is mounted on my stem.

Works great. Every function I need and a lot of information on each screen. I like that it resets itself so I don't have to remember the clear the display each time I ride. I just hit the center button and ride and the display lights up on its' own. Coded. Keep the strap clean and it will pick up HR without problems.

Fully endorse.
