Just a little rant...bar tape!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just a little rant...bar tape!

Would it kill them if the people that provide us with all the cool bar tape that we use were to give us just one or two more inches of it! I'm stretching the crap out of this cool microtex tape from Fizik because I know it's going to be close since I added gel pads to the bars. All I want is another wrap or two. Is that too much to ask? Do we need to get Congress involved? I ought to tell W that there are stingy ass bar tape terrorists in Italy. Grrrrrrrr..........

completely agree! That's the only issue I had with my Fi'zi:k bar tape. Well that and the double sided tape on the back of it makes for a difficult time wrapping/unwrapping when you find out the bar tape was short! I ended up tearing some parts of it, but at least they are parts that are covered up.

Reminds me of when my bike had those Scott bars with an inward extension from the drops. Looked cool at first, but then I kept whacking my bar when getting my bottle, and had to buy 2 rolls of bar tape to cover it! Worst of all, I almost never used that part. Sold the bars for $10 at the next swapmeet.

Or can't they just sell long rolls for us to cut to size? I seem to cut off and waste about 6 inches of bar tape.

yeah, i candy-striped mine, so it was long enough, now I have 4 strips of tape too short for anything.
Although, i think my tape was long enough to begin with... i just wanted a different look.

How did I know this thread was going to be about Fizik bar tape? That stuff is barely long enough, especially when you add the gel underneath.

I just put the Fi'zik tape on my Tarmac and noticed that it wasn't very long. Alos, there is a few inches on either end that isn't perffed (no holes). Why don't they make the whole strip with holes or not put so much solid tape on both ends...
The stuff looks and feels great tho...

+1, and it is very comparable to the Fizik.. I have white and it cleans right up with a little simple green.

Yeah, Ive got the same question about the Stella Azzurra Eleganza tape; why do the perfs end 2 wraps before the tape ends, on both ends of the wrap? Surely there's a reason, since both manufacturers of perforated "tennis racquet grip" tape do this.

"I know it's going to be close since I added gel pads to the bars."

I only added gel pads to the tops of the bars, left off the ones for the drops as I'm not in the drops that much anyway. The tape then fits perfectly.

I give up on that and just use electrical tape or whatever it is.

Well, if you're desperate to stick with the Fizik brand, one could always cut 1" off the drops to shorten the bars a bit.
