First time to do intervals!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First time to do intervals!

I've been reading the likes of Dr. Pete and others tout the benefits and results of interval training for a while so I decided to give it a whirl yesterday after work. I did a 15 warmup and then 6 one-minute "as fast as I could go" intervals. Yes, I almost threw up in my mouth a little. On the second interval I maintained 29 mph for almost a whole minute. That may not be much to the racers on this forum, but to me it felt like flying. Of course it was on flats with the wind at my back. After the intervals I spun for another 10 minutes and then did a couple of hill repeats in the saddle. I have to say, its hard as hell, but I know these intervals will make me a faster rider.
