I agree. Just being in a full team kit and riding overly expensive bikes, when you are just in it for recreation seems ridiculous. But whatever.

Plenty of people go into my wife's coffee shop and ask for a Grande whatever, and my wife tells them they don't have Grandes, but do have 20oz. I wouldn't be so nice about it, but it is not my coffee shop. I find it insulting to a locally owned coffee shop. And besides Starbucks has crap coffee.

Perhaps not, but the definition most certainly includes 'Poser'. It's difficult to pose if you're actually on your bike working. I'll grant you a partial exemption if you're (and I'm using the collective you, here, superted) riding much slower than the bike you have seems to suggest.

Like Yogi says, that place is so crowded nobody goes there anymore.

Did somebody use the word "poser"?

Amen brother.

After the Nyack ride yesterday it was such a friggin OCPfest at the R. Spoon I had to blow out of there before I puked. I rode back to my parent's house in affluent Bergen County which seemed low key after Nyack on Sunday.

Off topic here, but why in the past ten years has "trendy" become a good word or thing to be?

I've always thought that if something was trendy it was implied that's it's just a stupid, cheap fad, bad joke played on the masses of stupid people dumb enough to desire trendy stuff/ crap. Now it seems that it's almost a compliment as in, "Wow, I love that neighborhood/ bar/ store -- it's very trendy and it's so cool to be there and be seen there.".

Depends on what side of the fence your on. If everyone felt the same way then this discussion would not happen. One mans fad is anothers nirvana.
One could say that we are all dumb enough to desire. When we somehow manage to transend it, then the desire to feel better than others because they are different will disappear. Not that I've managed it:(

Usually the only time in the city involves spending money at the bikes shops. Roads are way better out Hamilton way, much more rural scenery and a heck of a lot less traffic. Only downfall for me is living in the Dundas valley. I have to climb that escarpment every ride out, but I had a fun speedy descent on the way home.

Yea what the hell happened to small, medium and large...That drives me nuts about Starbucks...Hence the reason my coffee dollars all go to Tim Hortons...

Small Medium Large...refer to Foamy...

And I gotta laugh, I was leaving the bank the other day and saw this guy riding in a full Cofidis kit and immediately thought of this thread. OCP exists...oh yeah, goin' strong.

superslomo 05-30-07 12:50 PM

I'm virtually certain I'm not OCP. I have a CSC jersey, but I bought it because it cost $40.00 and was Assos. I'm in on the fat guy thing, and on the slow guy thing, but I don't have a really fancy bike (all the while wearing MTB shoes; and nothing is particularly color matched between the clothing, the socks, and the bike.)

There are a good number of guys in fancy outfits with expensive bikes around Prospect in Brooklyn, but most of them are pretty damn fast when they actually get up and do something about it :)

I haven't yet managed it either, but in the meantime I'm just going to declare that I'm right and they are wrong. :p

and I don't park near by either.. we just hammer the 27 miles from aventura mall and back.. :)

If you're looking for a new ride.. then the best showroom is the nyack coffee shop any weekend morning... More high end bikes there then any bike shop I have visited..

I am an OCP... Assos clad on a custom Seven... :) and if you don't like it, then don't draft behind my big rear end.. :)

I did the ride from Aventura Mall to Key Biscayne in Feb '06. I am visiting again this coming weekend. Does that ride leave on Sundays at 7am behind Macy's at the Mall? I was going to rent a bike for the weeknd from City Bikes. They were the only ones nearby that said they would have something to rent me. Any other ideas?
thanks!
(Ohh yeah, the ride was kinda dangerous.. but I figured it is my closest option)

Marc, as of last month, they still left from behind Macy's on Country Club Drive.
There is also a saturday ride to Ft Lauderdale (about 44 miles) that leaves at 7am and the sunday key biscayne ride leaves at 7:15am. Just be careful going thru that toll booth.. been on on ride where a newbie hit the gate and ended up with 70+ stiches in his forehead.. luckily his glasses made a clean slit and there is hardly any scar now.

Some friends had also rented from City Bikes with no issues. You can also ask Hymie of City Bikes the times of the rides to be sure.

Looneytuna- thanks for the reply! Last visit there I did both the Sat and Sun ride. Here in NJ certainly can be crazy, but I was not used to all the riding thru red lights, etc. On the ride I was on, someone actually crashed in the city on the way out to the Key- right into the back of a taxi. He and his bike were a little banged up, but were able to continue on. This trip is for my sister-in-laws' wedding so I am trying to squeek in a ride while down there. I don't think Sat will work for me, but the Sun ride sounds good. How long would it take to get to the Sunday 'wheelers ride to the north from the mall area?
PS- will you be riding Sunday? Maybe I will see ya out there?
PPS- Do they ride the loop around the mall on Fridays?

thanks again
Marc

So true. The funniest are dudes and pals ordering "grandess" and "venti's" at private coffee shops.

He then got confused when I said I wanted a large cup of coffee. Apparently, nobody understands the English language at coffee houses either. I sure didn't understand what the heck the girl behind me was saying when she placed her order. I finally received my large black coffee and sat down outside the establishment to enjoy my beverage. I believe I was the only person that didn't have a cellphone, blackberry, laptop, or weird cyborg ear attachment at this place.

I was wearing the most expensive outfit, though. Not even the lawyers that came in could match me. ;)

Being able to figure out what OCP means is different than knowing exactly what it stands for.
