OCP is a myth.

I have never seen a roadie at a trendy coffee shop, much less a roadie in full kit.

Ergo, OCP = myth.

That is all.

Ha! Go to Toronto...Saw them all over the place on Sunday when I drove down to spend some money at the Local Bike Shops...

blonduathlongrl 05-28-07 09:48 AM

Oh Ive seen them via posted pics hanging out at starbucks, but never seen it here, maybe the fact that we dont have a starbucks helps:p

botto 05-28-07 09:49 AM

incorrect, i'm afraid.

i know someone here in the 'jam who's OCP (even if he's unaware of the term).

he looks the part, has a nice bike, but screams at you to lower the pace when you hit 30 kp/h

jsharr 05-28-07 09:50 AM

There is a night ride that starts at the Starbucks by my house. I will get you some pictures.

I had a banana nut muffin and a bold coffee mid- ride this morning at Seatle's finest. But not in Seatle.

Mis-matched kit and bike.

In our area in Metro Detroit I havn't seen anybody who fits the bill of OCP even though we have a fairly decent amount of cyclist, but you go out towards the Birmingham -Royal Oak area 1 out of every three fits the bill.

You've never been on the Nyack Muffin Ride.

as a matter of fact i have, but that was with people who actually knew how to ride (and race) a bike. :D

In Miami, the weekend rides are on Key Biscayne and everyone hangs at La Carreta restaurant for coffee. Not only is it OCP central, but there are even guys that drive to the Key, park in a lot about 3 miles from La Carreta and ride their bikes up, yakking about how much they spent on the newest unobtanium whatever, how little it weighs and how many watts it saves. Its hilarious.

Patriot 05-28-07 11:18 AM

OCP is definitely no myth. :)

Hey Botto,

What about those of us who can ride the distance, but have a bit of trouble holding the 30km/h average for the duration of the ride?? Just trying to decide if I'm an OCP candidate or not...

Wait I just remembered...The wife and I did the 30km/h average for the century we did...Guess that means we might be moving away from the OCP...

I guess by your standards, a nerd is anyone who has never been to Starbucks, never gone out for a ride with their friends on a sunny day, and doesn't look as incredible as Lance on a bike.

Me thinks, someone else needs to enjoy life a little more. I for one, will enjoy this sunny Memorial day doing something better than spending it on BF. Like going to the park with the family, going for a ride, and being as OCP as I can while I stop for a slushy at the local 7-Eleven. Or perhaps, a Mocha Frappuccino at.... (gasp) STARBUCKS!!!!

(no offense to BF of course, maybe I'll pop in later tonight)

Ciao. :D

i didn't mean average speed: the guy i was referring to couldn't hold 30 kp/h over ANY sustained period of time.

OCP? like this http://www.ocp.com/ ?
or
Oregon Catholic Press
Ochre Coloured Pottery
Oral Communication for the Professions
Oral Contraceptive Pill
One Car Pile-Up

Maybe this
Obsessive Compulsive Poseur - a bicyclist who buys and wears the most expensive gear/bicycle in order to impress other cyclists at a local coffee shop.

How expensive does the bike have to be?
Does the coffee shop have to be a Starbucks?
Are there any other requirements?
If your jeolous of the OCP's bike and equipment does that make you a wanna be OCP?

thanks

dough.boy 05-28-07 11:43 AM

you're part of that group...no?

cloud5 05-28-07 11:48 AM

This probably means that i am one, but what is OCP?

mud 05-28-07 12:27 PM

 I believe that some of those bikes might have kickstands!
Mud

shabbasuraj 05-28-07 12:31 PM

BTW those people in the pic are not real OCPs, as they are not wearing replica team kits...

...so.... I think they are better classified as FOCPs.

lvleph 05-28-07 12:36 PM

I hang out at a coffee shop, but my wife is the manager and I am trying to buy it. Oh and I wouldn't wear a team jersey, unless it was on sale and was the cheapest thing there.
