Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

$30 glasses

Can I do better than Tifosi Q2's for $30? I really don't want to spend more than that, and these look pretty good. Any other brands that make comparable/better styles for the same price?

I own two pairs of Optic Nerve glasses: the Rodango, & the V4. Both of them were on sale @ Performance for $20 each. I keep wanting to find fault with them so I can justify a blingy pair of Rudy Projects or Oakleys...but there's really nothing at all wrong with the Optic Nerve glasses.

Look at your local safety equipment store for safety glasses with tint and wrap-around feature.

Probably won't be polarized, probably won't be auto-dimming.

but -- just got some nice ones for about $8, a "smith & wesson" branded pair, and have been happy with others which feature replaceable lenses for $6 or so for the glasses, $3.50 or so for new lenses. Makes the inevitable scratches, or loosing glasses, less of a concern.

I'm pretty happy with my Cyote sunglasses I got from Nashbar (also seen in come Shorts Chalets) for $40. They come with polarized dark lenses, rose lenses, and clear lenses.

I just got a pair of Tifosi Stelvio's with the EC, GT, and AC Red lenses. After using them now for the last two weeks, I highly recommend them as their optics indeed are stellar and the frame quality is indistinguishable from a $180 pair of Bolle sunglasses my wife was looking into getting. I'd suggest getting the Q2's, assuming you tried them all on and the Q2's were the one's that fit best. The Q2's don't appear to come with interchangeable lenses and to me the biggest advantage with most of Tifosi's models is the interchangeable lenses that come standard. A similar pair to the Q2 is the Quam, Kilo, or Q3 which can come with a set of interchangeable lenses.

As long as the lenses are distortion -free, I use 20 to 30 dollar galsses,I'll lose them, drop or whatever,no more hundred dollar glasses for me.. I've owned or read of most of what's been listed... all distortion free, all fine glasses. What you DON'T want GLASS ones, unless they're perscription they often distort (some older RayBans) I just ordered a set of Smiths for forty bucks, I saw them last year for a hundred , I went the extra ten.

i went to Target last week, and picked up 2 pairs of Ironman glasses for $40, including tax. i used them on my monday ride, and they looked great, and worked even better. also, the lenses aren't exposed, so they're safer than my original glasses, which was the original reason i got them...

+1

Another source with sometimes surprisingly decent shades: quickstop stores. Usually, the glasses are worth what you're paying for them ($8-15 US - i,e very poor), but every once in a while I've found very nice sports glasses which I use for XC skiing and cycling. I check them out regularly and every so often find a pair that is good.

That said, I'm definitely going to check out some of the recommended cheapos from Performance and Nashbar. Many years ago I bought a set of house brand from Performance with interchangable lenses and they were excellent glasses.

I really like Performance Quattros. They fit my head well, have a nice large surface, comeI'm with multiple lenses from clear to dark/mirrored, has a case & cleaning cloth.

I appreciate the difference a well made pair of glasses makes, but I'm too forgetful/clumsy to drop 100-200 on glasses I know I will drop hundreds of times or lose outright.

I've had a string of bad luck with my Tifosi lenses splitting down the middle, right over the nosepiece. I just figure that I'm getting what I paid for, though.

Scroll down to the Venture II. Smoke = dark as normal sunglasses, clear = obvious, amber = halfway.

I have a pair of Tifosi Tyrant glasses that I use for cycling and I love them. I have seen some other glasses out there that I think might be better but I could have bought like 5 pairs of my Tifosi's for what the other "better" glasses cost. My tifosi's are comfortable, nice looking and do a good job of staying put. Also, I doubt the lenses could get much better - crystal clear, no distortion. Plus, I have been impressed with Tifosi as a company. I once lost a replaceable nose piece and Tifosi sent me a new set of nose pieces in a week and for free when I emailed them and asked where I could buy a new nose piece.

I'm always breaking, losing, misplacing my sunglasses. www.galeton.com sells them as 'safety' glasses, but they have many styles that are cheap as heck. Many of them can be had for $5-6 bucks a pair including shipping and don't look that much different from the one's I've purchased from Performance and elsewhere.

My pair of Performance Quattros went flying off my helmet on the BF Memorial Day ride. Went back to look for them but couldn't find them quickly and didn't want to hold the group up any longer. Glad they were only $20.00.

Seems Performance always has some kind of decent shields on sale for $20.00. I since have been using an older pair of Performance shields, a bit goofy, but great periferal coverage. I wear contacts and some shields channel the wind a certain way that causes me to lose contact lenses regularly...

The Tifosi's look cool...I may try to find some on clearance...

Tifosi has the best optics of any glasses i've owned or researched sub $150.00
You can get better lenses, but your gonna pay 5 times the price. For 30.00, buy them.

The Oakley M-Frames have become a cliche at this point as popular sunglasses for road cycling, but they still do the best for me in terms of blocking the wind - especially when I'm in the drops. Anyone have feedback on how any of these glasses mentioned above perform vs. the Oakley M-Frames in regards to wind protection?
