"Assassins" ..... Octave Lapize in the 8th tour Pyrnees
When the race finally reached the Pyrenees, Gustave Garrigou was the first to cross the Tourmalet, but he said nothing to Desgrange and the other officials, who had been waiting with some anxiety to see if any rider made it over the Tourmalet and onto the Aubisque. 15 minutes later, Lapize appeared, covered in mud and pushing his bike. "Assassins" he spat, before riding on, eventually to win the stage.

Not specifically a cycling quote but works well none the less. "If you believe in yourself, have dedication and pride and never quit you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards." Paul "Bear" Bryant

So, swearing revenge, he dragged himself, using only his hands, several hundred miles to get to an outpost. It took months. Early on he developed infections in the wounds on his back, so he spent 3 days lying over a rotten log letting the maggots eat out the dead and infected tissue. He survived and went looking for the men who left him, but never caught them.
NEVER underestimate the drive for retribution.

Not only did he use maggots to treat his wounds, he found a group of friendly Native Americans who sutured bear skin to his back to cover up his wounds (which were so deep his ribs were exposed).

Oh and a quote... hmmm, Bjarne Riis, Mr 60%, channeling Mark McGuire saying words to the effect, "I'm not here to talk about the past." B@stard can't even make a clean confession.

You are bent over at the waist, a guy has his crotch near your arse as he is pinning your race number on, he tells you to spell run..

Kenny Lundgren, top local Cat 2 elite racer as he stomped away from me on the Nyack Ride about 18 months ago. He's actually not that big of a jerk all the time. But that day he was. Memorable quote however.
