Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fizik bar tape

Any tips on how to wrap this stuff? I bought the Bar Gel Kit, and the gel is easy enough to use, but the tape has no stretch to it. As soon as you have to wrap up the bend, it puckers and will not lay flat.

Thoughts?

Pull a little tighter around the bends and it should lay nice and flat. I have the Fizik bar tape on all my bikes ... great stuff.

Yes. Not sure if they offer a non-perforated style or not. All of the tape I use is perforated.

All Fizik tape is perforated. As long as they don't start selling the stuff that the ProTour teams are using with the Fizik logo all over the tape, I'll be happy.

+1 on pulling tight.
+∞ on how awesome it is, especially with the gel underneath.

I've been really disappointed in the long-term durability of the Fizik stuff.

I prefer RavX Stitch tape... or if you can't find that, Stella Azzura Eleganza is identical... I mean literally. Same company. Same tape, different box.

I like the RavX because it's cheaper... only difference is that it doesn't have the Stella logos on the plugs, and the box it comes in isn't as fancy.

You're either enamoured with Fizik enough to stretch the truth, or you're simply not riding enough.

Fizik may be great, it may be terrible, but no tape goes three years "without a scratch".

Its my first time using the Microtex tape, and like the OP I had the "wrinkles" due to not stretching enough.
Its more of an aesthetic problem. Its very comfy on the hands though.

You may want to wrap some electrical tape over the gel if it's bulk is causing the puckering of the tape. I did this with my bar phat and didn't have to do anything extraordinary with the tape to finish the job.

I love the Fizik Microtex tape. My only complaint with Fizik is they need to give you a few more wraps worth of tape. I put gel pads on and had a devil of a time getting the tape to cover. I'd happily pay more for more tape.
