Road biking in Whistler Canada

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road biking in Whistler Canada

Has any one biked (road) in the Whistler area? I am heading there this weekend for some DH biking and I was wondering if I should bring my road bike along.

Any suggested rides or links to information? Thanks.

There are some nice roads there but they are usually pretty dirty from all the sand/salt they put down all winter. Other than that I say go for it - its a beautiful area to ride.

There are some awesome roads up at whistler. First off, there are paved paths that go all around the bottom of Whistler - they are in very good shape. There are many of these paths and they go all around the various lakes. Checkout the Whistler website and you will be able to find a map showing them.

The road from Whistler to Pemberton is a nice biking road that many road cyclists frequent, as well as the road from Pemberton to Lilloet which I just road a couple days ago (I think it is only 13 miles or so), but the road from Whistler to Pemberton is much more.

To conclude, there is awesome roadbiking in Whistler, as there arn't many cars on the roads, and the paths are amazing. I would definitely take your road bike up there, as I always take mine up to my GF's cabin and have awesome rides all the time.

These are all shots are from this weekend. Awesome weather and riding...

I got some respect from some cross country bike riders when I rode a singletrack on my road bike. Paris-Roubaix has nothingon Whistler's singletracks.*

*Case in point.
