Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weird Roller Problem

So my husband and I got a set of Kreitler rollers earlier this year and we have been using them off and on for a few months. Today when my husband was on them, the room started to smell like burnt rubber and his tires picked up a silver color where they hit the rollers (it looked like the silver from the drums was coloring his tires). This has never happened before. Anybody else experience anything like this? We're pretty mystified.

Email Al Kreitler and ask him. I have never had this with my Kreitlers.

My tires get some residual steel silvering once in a while on my trainer, but never on my rollers. It usually happens when the tire is slipping.

My rear michelin pro race 2 tire did this it was really loud, and by the end of a session it looked like my tire was made of metal there was such a thick coat on there. i switched tires and the problem went away for the most part. It's normal to get a little metal coloration on tires, but not so thick you can't rub it off.
